Subaru Just Earned 5 Top Honors In MotorTrend’s Ultimate Car Rankings

The Subaru brand has gotten plenty of recognition to start the new year. The 2022 Subaru Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent are now best in class. Check out all five recent segment awards from Motor Trend.

Does Subaru make the best cars? Subaru received the top overall car brand title from Consumer Reports on which car brands make the best cars to start the new year. And now the Japanese automaker picks up more awards from Motor Trend. A new list of Motor Trends Ultimate Car Ranking shows the 2022 Subaru Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent all score best in class awards. And the Forester scores number two best in class, and the Impreza is the third-best in class.

The 2022 Subaru Outback scores number one in the Midsize SUV segment, with an MT score of 8.7/10. MT says, "The Outback looks like the last version but is better than ever. It's practical, efficient, and super comfy. High safety scores are a plus, but its tech needs work. All-in, the Outback is a terrific value."

What is the price of the 2022 Outback?

The 2022 Outback now comes in eight trim levels; the base trim is priced from $27,845, Premium ($30,270), Limited ($34,720), Touring ($38,620), Onyx Edition XT ($36,270), new for 2022, Outback Wilderness ($38,120), Limited XT ($39,120), and Touring XT ($41,070). The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek scores number one in the Subcompact SUV segment with an MT score of 9.2/10. MT says the Crosstrek is "Practical, rugged, and comfortable, and the Crosstrek puts the goodness of its larger siblings into a smaller SUV. Generous ground clearance helps off-roading performance, and a more powerful engine is now available."

What is the price of the 2022 Crosstrek?

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek comes in five trim levels for customers. The base trim is priced from $23,570, Premium ($24,720), Sport ($27,920), Limited ($29,420) and Crosstrek Hybrid ($37,895). Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,125). Check out Crosstrek fuel mileage here.

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is the surprise pick by MT. The Ascent SUV scores number one in the 3-Row SUV segment with an MT score of 9.0/10. MT says, "Subaru's three-row impresses with its torquey turbocharged engine, smooth ride quality, and great standard safety tech. Good fuel economy and strong safety ratings only sweeten the deal."

What is the price of the 2022 Ascent?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent base starts at $33,420, and Premium trims begin at $35,920. The new Ascent Onyx Edition starts at $39,120. The upper Limited starts at $40,720, and the top-trim Touring has a starting MSRP of $46,570. Pricing includes destination fees. Check out the Ascent fuel mileage here.

After the Honda CR-V, the 2022 Subaru Forester scores number two in the Compact SUV segment. Forester gets an MT score of 8.8/10. MT says, "Driving dynamics from the newly refreshed Forester won't inspire awe, but a spacious interior, comfortable ride, excellent efficiency and range, and strong value rating make it a wise pick."

For the 2022 model change Forester comes in six trim levels; The base Forester starts at $26,320, Premium ($29,320), Sport ($30,890), Limited ($33,000), new Wilderness ($33,945), and Touring ($36,420). After the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, Impreza scores number three best in the Compact Hatchback segment. Impreza gets an MT score of 8.4/10. MT says, "Standard all-wheel-drive adds appeal to the Impreza. It rides and handles nicely in sedan or hatchback form, but acceleration trails competitors. Still, an excellent value rating makes it a smart buy."

What is the price of the 2022 Impreza?

Subaru kept pricing the same for the 2022 model year except for a small increase in the designation and delivery fees. The 2022 Impreza comes in base sedan ($19,755), base hatchback ($20,255) Premium sedan ($23,155), Premium hatchback ($23,655), Sport sedan ($24,555), Sport hatchback ($23,955), and Limited hatchback ($27,355). Destination and delivery ($960) are included in the prices above.

What sets the Subaru brand apart from other automakers?

Apart from being affordable, getting excellent fuel mileage, and earning the top safety scores, all Subaru vehicles come standard with the brand's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive. The Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent have 8.7-inches of ground clearance, the SUVs have X-Mode for additional all-weather performance, and Forester and Outback now have the rugged Wilderness trim levels for outdoor enthusiasts. SUV shoppers with active lifestyles are a good fit for its vehicles.

The 2022 Subaru Outback midsize SUV, 2022 Crosstrek subcompact SUV, and 2022 Ascent 3-Row SUV picked up more Best SUV awards. Motor Trend says the three SUVs are the best in class. The refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUV is ranked number two overall, and the 2022 Subaru Impreza is now number three best in class.
