Subaru announced today they will unveil the 2018 WRX STI S208 and 2018 BRZ STI at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017.

The new 2018 Subaru WRX STI S208 and BRZ STI will make their global premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017. Subaru announced today there will only be 450 examples of the Japan-only performance sedan, and it will be sold by lottery. The 2018 Subaru WRX STI S208, is based on the newly-refreshed WRX STI, and it’s the top-end model for the Japan market. Subaru worked with its motorsports subsidiary, Subaru Tecnica International (STI) for the exclusive development of the engine and suspension on the limited edition performance car.

Subaru and STI added extra unique trim to both exterior and interior of the limited edition S208. Modifications from the S207 launched in 2015, include improved engine output of the EJ20 2.0-liter boxer (325hp) and acceleration performance, and STI lowered the center of gravity with the adoption of a carbon fiber roof. The images also reveal a special rear wing on the S208.

Subaru Corporation is building the limited edition as a special 30th anniversary model to commemorate Subaru’s WRC title in 1998. STI is developing the S208 as a “super version” of the Subaru 22B STi which was also a Japan-only model.

BRZ STI Sport

Subaru also announced a new Subaru BRZ STI Sport limited edition coupe they will also reveal at the show. STI enhanced the ride quality and handling stability of the BRZ STI by improving body rigidity and “exclusive suspension tuning” for improved handling performance. The 2018 BRZ STI Sport will also get exterior and interior modifications exclusive to the limited edition sports coupe. Subaru will limit this Japan-only model to just 100 units and it will come in one color, Cool Grey Khaki. Subaru will not likely make any engine upgrades to the 2.0-liter powerplant.

The new Japan-spec 2018 Subaru WRX STI S208 and BRZ STI Sport specifications and details of the sale by lottery will be announced at the official unveiling of both cars on October 25, 2017. Subaru says to enter the lottery for the sale of these limited edition models, customers in Japan can sign up for the lottery at their dealers. Subaru also announced four other special cars they will be bringing to the 45th Tokyo Motor Show. More details are coming here soon. Stay tuned.

Only the cool grey khaki is limited to 100 models. The BRZ STI model can be purchased in the regular BRZ colours without limitation in Japan. At least, this is what I was told at a Subaru Dealer in Japan.
