The Percentage Of Subaru Owners Who Say They Would Definitely Buy The Same Model Again

How many Subaru owners would buy the same vehicle again? The updated Consumer Reports owner satisfaction study has interesting results.

Would you buy the same Subaru vehicle if you had to do it all over again? That's the question Consumer Reports (by subscription) asked new Subaru and other car brand owners in its 2023 Annual Auto Surveys. I cover the data from the study annually, and here are the results.

How does Consumer Reports rate customer satisfaction?

Data from the 2021 to 2023 model years (plus a few 2024 models) were averaged, provided a vehicle wasn't significantly changed over that time. Car brands are ranked from their owner satisfaction score based on the percentage of owners who responded "definitely yes" to the question of whether they would buy the same vehicle if they had to do it all over again (considering price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.).

Love. It's what makes Subaru, Subaru. That's what the Camden, N.J. automaker says about its models.

How many Subaru owners "Love" their all-wheel-drive vehicle (and rear-drive BRZ)? In the latest surveys, owners saying they would buy a Subaru vehicle again is at 70 percent. That's tops among mainstream car brands. 

How Does Subaru rank among all mainstream car brands in customer satisfaction?

Here are the fourteen mainstream car brands and the percentage of customers who would buy the same car brand again.

  1. Subaru 70%
  2. Ram 69%
  3. Honda 69%
  4. Chevrolet 69%
  5. Toyota 69%
  6. Hyundai 68%
  7. Ford 67%
  8. GMC 67%
  9. Mazda 66%
  10. Kia 63% 
  11. Chrysler 59%
  12. Jeep 58%
  13. Nissan 55%
  14. Volkswagen 51%

Subaru does have two models that were on the least satisfying model list.

Another updated study from Consumer Reports (by subscription) says Subaru has two lower customer satisfaction models: The 2024 Subaru Legacy midsize sedan and the 2023 Subaru Solterra all-electric compact SUV. You can read the complete report here

Subaru doesn't have just a handful of models that satisfy owners the most. The Japanese automaker consistently ranks among the best car brands because it consistently pleases its customers across most of its lineup. But two models rank low.

In last year's ranking from Consumer Reports, 73% of Subaru owners said they would buy the same vehicle again. This year's three percent drop can be attributed to the Legacy and Solterra lower scores. Check out the report here, I show why the two models are the least satisfying.
