Check out the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive non-hybrid vehicles for 2020. The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, Impreza, and Legacy make the list.

Maybe you aren’t ready to pull the trigger and buy a new all-electric vehicle just yet. You could be waiting for EVs to get more range and a few more charging stations in your area. It could be the best time to buy a gas model while you are waiting. If all-wheel-drive is important to you, Auto Trader came up with the most fuel-efficient AWD vehicles in North America, and Subaru scores three of the four models on the list. The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, Impreza and Legacy models.

Having an SUV with all-wheel-drive usually means you have to sacrifice on fuel economy, but it’s not true with four models. The four most fuel-efficient non-hybrid all-wheel-drive cars on the market include one other model, the 2020 Nissan Altima. The 2020 Impreza compact sedan and 5-Door hatchback models get the best mileage at 28/36 city/highway and 31 combined.

The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek gets an EPA estimated 27/33 city/highway mpg and 30 combined. The Subaru Legacy comes in at 27/35/30 mpg. The Nissan Altima with all-wheel-drive gets an EPA estimated 26/36/30.

The difference between Subaru and Nissan is, front-wheel drive is standard on the Altima and all-wheel drive is optional. All Subaru vehicles come standard with the brand’s Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system and you don’t pay extra for it. The base 2020 Nissan Altima S with AWD has a starting MSRP of $25,450. The base 2020 Subaru Legacy starts at $22,745 and comes standard with all-wheel-drive. Even if you upgrade to the Legacy Premium trim ($24,995), it still comes in less than the bare bones Altima.

If you need a fuel-efficient subcompact SUV, compact hatchback or sedan or mid-size sedan, the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, Impreza, Legacy, and Altima are the four most fuel-efficient non-hybrid models in North America. And they feature all-wheel-drive for all-weather stability.
