Should you buy the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek or wait for the next-generation 2023 models? There have been new sightings, and you can check out new Crosstrek spy shots here.

The Subaru Crosstrek gets a complete remodel for the 2023 model year, and with new upgrades coming, you may want to wait for the new subcompact SUV. The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek was spotted driving recently in metro Detroit, and it gives us some idea of what the exterior changes will be when Subaru's hot model arrives next year. See more recent spy shots here.

The next-generation Crosstrek subcompact SUV is completely covered in camouflage, but no padded panels give the new all-wheel-drive model a clearer view. Subaru Crosstrek enthusiasts hoping for drastic exterior styling changes may be disappointed. Subaru Corporation will not make any significant exterior changes. Still, the next-generation Crosstrek will get a new front fascia, grille, and headlights, as well as a new tailgate and taillights in the rear.

There will be some changes to the rear of the new Crosstrek as it keeps its C-shaped taillights. Subaru engineers could make the tailgate opening wider like the next-generation Forester.

Though the interior hasn't been seen, Subaru is expected to equip the third-generation Crosstrek with the most advanced versions of its Starlink multimedia system as well as updated EyeSight driver-assistance functions and other technology.

We know from sources close to Subaru; the Japanese automaker will launch a new 2023 Crosstrek Wilderness trim level. This will be the trim level worth waiting for if you can hold off buying the subcompact SUV for another year.

Will the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek get a new engine?

With the 2022 Forester Wilderness staying with the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter engine, Crosstrek Wilderness will likely keep its 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer as well.

Subaru may upgrade the Crosstrek's current 2.5-liter naturally aspirated Boxer engine with additional horsepower. True to form, the Japanese automaker is tight-lipped about releasing information on the all-new rugged adventure model. Still, we don't expect the Crosstrek Wilderness to get the 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer engine.

Like Outback and Forester Wilderness trim levels, the all-new Crosstrek Wilderness will come with an advanced dual function X-Mode, elevated 9.2-inch ground clearance like Forester, all-terrain tires, standard front, and rear skid plates, and an upgraded off-road suspension.

The next-generation 2023 Subaru Crosstrek will make its global launch first in early 2023, and the Crosstrek Wilderness will arrive in the U.S. in the spring of 2023. The new subcompact SUV was just spotted again in metro Detroit. With the latest upgrades, you may want to wait for the all-new 2023 Subaru Crosstrek. Stay tuned.
