If You Buy A New Subaru Crosstrek, Get Ready For An Avalanche Of Emails

See how many emails one couple gets from Subaru after they buy a new 2019 Crosstrek.

If you buy a new Subaru vehicle you will get more than a new car, you will gain a new email buddy. We have a story from a recent customer who purchased a 2019 Crosstrek compact SUV from a Subaru dealer near Golden, Colorado, and they have received more emails from the Camden, N.J. automaker than they could have imagined. The customers purchased their new all-wheel-drive vehicle on April 2, 2019, and have received a total of 31 emails in two months and the avalanche of emails just keep coming.

This customer purchased their Crosstrek because of the safety features, the all-wheel-drive system, for trekking through the mountains on their mountain bikes, and the fuel efficiency. What they weren’t ready for was an overflowing inbox. Here is a sampling of some of the emails they’ve received in the short time they’ve owned their new compact SUV.

Email avalanche

Congratulations on your new Subaru, Promos, Welcome to Subaru Starlink, Your MySubaru temporary password is enclosed, Discounts for Earth Day, Service specials, Wanting feedback, Insider newsletter, Sirius XM deals, XM personalized recommendations, Vehicle delivery checklist, Production account statement, Invitation to Subaru Encore tutorial, Rebate offers, Sirius XM app download, Your SiriusXM trial includes free streaming, Subaru Satisfaction Survey, We’d appreciate your feedback, The trial in your new Subaru Crosstrek, Welcome to the Subaru family, Keep your new ride running great!, and We’re working on our communication skills.

Subaru works on customer communication

The emails come from the dealer, some from the salesman, many from Subaru of America, and some from Sirius XM wanting the customer to buy the premium radio channels after the 90-day trial period runs out. When asked why they didn’t just unsubscribe from the emails, the couple told Torque News they didn’t want to unsubscribe from the company emails for fear of missing out on some important information about their new Crosstrek. In Subaru's defense, they do have a way to manage the emails they send to customers. You can also receive the messages as a text or mobile push notification on your smartphone.

This new customer likes their new all-wheel-drive Subaru Crosstrek SUV but wishes the Japanese automaker would ease up on the avalanche of emails. The couple who lives in the mountains west of Denver told us, “We love our new Crosstrek. We’ve already used it for getting home safely in a late spring snowstorm, but these emails are a bit much!”

I appreciate getting e-mails from Subaru. I feel that it shows a concern for their customers. I’ve purchased cars from other manufacturers and have never gotten an acknowledgement . We own 2 Subaru’s and don’t mind getting any of their e-mails; they’re usually informative, and appreciative.

Yepper, just bought a WRX in March. Same deal. And calls from the dealership as well. Come in for a gas card so we can show you all the technical features of your new radio, come on man. Love my car but I am very tired of the constant cantact.

So Subaru is like most companies you do business with these days?

Hint: there's an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email. Use it after #1 or #2 and then you can stop counting them!

Was this even worth writing a story about? So here's a couple that buys a new Crosstrek (smart choice) but can't figure out how to un-check or check boxes to not receive certain email communication? Pretty lame.

As Subaru has stated, they can limit the types of messages they receive from Subaru however, the XM Radio emails will keep on coming even if they subscribe. SiriusXM has some of THE most annoying email practices. Even if you subscribe, mark Sirius as spam.

That works out to one email every other day. But from three companies (Subaru America, dealer, XM). So, an email every six days per company after buying a car. That doesn't seem like it's worth an article, really. Even the author says they could have managed the amount - and despite the owners comment, they could have turned off advertising and not missed "important" information.

BTW, we have a new 2018 Legacy, so we know what the emails are like. It is manageable. It was the same with a new Buick.

heh... When I bought my Crosstrek "they" botched up my email addy. Now I get NO emails and cannot signup in their online user forums because my VIN "is already signed up."

It isn't just the Crosstrek. I bought a 2019 Subaru Forrester slightly used 2 weeks ago in Austin, TX and have already received 10 emails. It is crazy!
