The 2016 Subaru WRX STI new generation performance car continues to be a hot seller. How does it compare to the 2015 model?

Last year at this time, the 2015 Subaru WRX/STI performance sedans were setting records in sales. A year later, the 2016 WRX/STI performance models are beating the previous year’s records by a huge margin. Subaru of America reports the 2016 WRX/STI had the best September ever and sales are up an astounding 159.2 percent over the same month last year. The popular performance sedans are up 40.6 percent year-to-date leading all the brand’s models.

Subaru now has three consecutive months of all-time U.S. sales records in a row. WRX/STI is a hot item with performance enthusiasts even with competition from the Volkswagen Golf R and 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. The new Ford Focus RS is coming next year with their hot hatchback. That could cut into sales because Subaru doesn’t have a five-door hatchback STI.

Subaru has a very loyal performance customer base, and for now, sales continue to be hot with this group. The Japanese automaker’s goal to grow beyond the current loyal customers and attract a new generation of buyers to WRX/STI seems to be working too.

The new-generation Subaru WRX/STI was designed to keep their current loyal customers happy and also to attract a wider audience to the brand. It seems to be working well for the Japanese automaker as Subaru is setting new records every month with the 2016 Subaru WRX and WRX STI performance sedans.
