The new BMW i8 wins another award and sprints away with the World Car Award in the World Green Car category. What other World Car Award did i8 narrowly miss?

For the second time, BMW i clinched victory at the World Car Awards in the category World Green Car. The BMW i8 was awarded this prestigious award at the New York International Auto Show following the BMW i3’s award last year. The i8 sprints to victory and was honored by the international jury at the World Car Awards.

The i8 is a world-class sports car that comes with plug-in hybrid drive technology and innovative lightweight construction. BMW i8 was also one of the finalists in the category World Luxury Car at the World Car Awards 2015, showing just how impressed the judges are with this car.

Not the first award for i8

The BMW i8 was also recognized recently for its innovative technological developments and picked up the “International Paul Pietsch Award.” Last year the award also went to BMW and the new i3 was the winner. The BMW i8 emerged as the clear winner getting 50 percent of the overall votes. BMW i8 walked away with the award due to its status as an “all-new sports car.” The new BMW i8 was also recently named Top Gear magazine’s global Car of the Year 2014.

i8 shows the future of performance

The new BMW i8 has more abilities than just efficiency. Its 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gas engine combined with an electric motor produces 357 horsepower and 420 lb. ft of torque that gives the sports car a 0-62 mph sprint time of 4.4 seconds. That’s also due in part to its light carbon fiber reinforced central tub. It delivers the kind of high-performance that would excite any driving enthusiast.

The BMW i8 must be a truly amazing car. It get 28 mpg and wins "World Green Car" award???. I would have thought that the Tesla Model S which get almost 4 times the fuel economy ( equivalent), out runs the BMW by almost a second in the standing quarter mile and cost say $30,000 less ( than a P85D) would have been the choice. Must be all the chemically treated glass and carbon fiber that won the judges over.
