A recent report says that Audi is going to revive the Sport Quattro and bring it to production in 2015.

It looks like Audi may have plans to bring back the Sport Quattro reminiscent of the 1984 sports car that was developed for Group B rally racing. The car had a very limited production run and is collector car among Audi enthusiasts. According to Auto Bild, Audi is planning to bring back the Quattro Sport in time for its 35th anniversary in 2015.

The original road-going car featured a 2.1-liter engine that produced 302 horsepower with the competition cars producing 444 horsepower. In addition to running in the Group B rallying competition, the Sport Quattro won the 1985 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and set a world record time. Only 224 Sport Quattro short wheelbase cars were built and were sold for a hefty price of $71,500 U.S. by the German automaker.

The internal name of Q35 reflects Audi’s intention to bring back the famous car in time for the 35-year celebration of the Quattro in March of 2015. Auto Bild reports that the new Sport Quattro pricing would fit in the Audi lineup between the TT and the R8. Audi would plan on building around 10,000 of the sports cars for sale worldwide. The four-seat two-door coupe would give Audi a car to compete with the BMW M3 and the Mercedes C63 AMG.

The 2015 Sport Quattro would be motivated by a 2.5-liter supercharged five-cylinder engine producing around 380 horsepower. The car of course would come with Audi’s all-wheel-drive system and an S tronic dual-clutch automatic would transfer power to all four wheels. The car would be lightweight through the use of light alloys and carbon fiber. Expected 0-62 mph times could be in the 4 second range.

Styling of the new Sport Quattro may have been already previewed with the Quattro concept that made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 2010. The Quattro concept pictured above was made to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original Audi Quattro and the Audi quattro all-wheel-drive system. The concept was based on the Audi RS5 and featured a modified 2.5-liter five-cylinder TFSI engine and the sixth generation of quattro transmission.

If Audi decides to bring back the Sport Quattro, the 35th anniversary would be an ideal time.
