Texans choose the local kid in the latest round up.

The mid-size pickup truck market is an interesting one. The top sellers, the Toyota Tacoma and GM Colorado and Canyon twins, are sell-outs. Meaning that both Toyota and GM sell every truck they make. So comparison tests of the two brands’ trucks are more an exercise in pointing out which features the tester prefers. The Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) prefer the new Tacoma TRD Off-Road and Sport Limited, though in fairness, the GM Colorado Diesel Crew Cab was a close second.

Being the home team never hurts. Toyota makes all of its trucks in North America with a substantial part of its operations in San Antonio, Texas. Toyota of North America is also located in Texas in a suburb of Dallas.

There is more good news for Toyota’s Tacoma. Aside from taking home the top slot for Mid-size trucks it also came in third overall in the truck voting. It was behind the new Nissan Titan XD and Ford F-150. The Tacoma’s crawl control also drew praise and was second in the “Best Technology” category.

Toyota’s Lexus RX took third in the CUV of Texas category, and the Toyota Land Cruiser came in third overall in the SUV of Texas section.
