The 2015 Ford Mustang Rendered by JC Design

There are lots of pictures of the next generation 2015 Ford Mustang floating around the internet but the one shown above which was discovered by the folks at The Mustang Source at Mustang6g.com is the best that I have seen thus far – although it paints a picture that could be very controversial if the production model does look similar to what is shown above.

There are a few things that we do know about the 2015 Ford Mustang like the fact that it will have independent rear suspension but more importantly, we fully expect that the next generation Mustang will wear some iteration of the Evos styling language that debuted on the current Ford Fusion sedan. This is a bold new direction away from the “retro look” Mustang that has been so popular since it was introduced for 2004 and if Ford goes as radically Evos-like as the rendering above – the Motor Company is going to upset some purists. These people wont be upset because the 2015 Mustang doesn’t look good…they will be upset because it isn’t unique enough from the rest of the Ford brand lineup.

It is hard to deny that the rendering of the 2015 Ford Mustang shown above – while looking very mean in Shelby GT500 form – looks a bit like a new Fusion coupe. Many Mustang buyers don’t just want a rear wheel drive high performance coupe, they want a Mustang and making the next generation Mustang look too much like the new Fusion up front could drive some prospective buyers away. At the same time, having this rounded, super sleek design could also attract possible buyers who weren’t previously interested in the styling of the current S197 Mustang. Also, the Evos styling found on the American Ford Fusion and the European Ford Mondeo may be more successful on the global market and one of Ford’s biggest efforts right now is to offer their most successful and iconic models in every market in pretty much the same form.

Regardless of how the elder muscle car crowd will embrace the look of the 2015 Ford Mustang, this rendering by Mustang6g.com member JC Design is one of the cleanest that I have seen. The most significant feature is the front end of the car but you can also see a sharpened rear quarter window and an roofline that looks to be a touch more slippery than the current models. In looking at this rendering, the only thing that is really going to get the purists’ panties in a bunch would be the super slim LED headlights. While the lines around those headlights have been refined a bit, they still aren’t all that different from what the current Mustang wears and if the “worst” thing about the 2015 Mustang is a set of high tech headlights that give the car a very angry look – I’ll take it.

The problem with purists is that they simply arent willing to accept the fact that vehicles have to change over time and if the 2015 Ford Mustang was to continue on with the same exterior design as the current model year and the 9 model years before this one – Ford would be criticized for not keeping their lineup fresh. In the end, I should remind everyone that a great many people in the Mustang community frowned upon the current S17 platform when it was introduced for the 2005 model year but that design has had no problem selling. However, with the current Mustang entering its 10th model year, the time has come for a change and a Mustang that looks like the one above could be just the trick to help spark sales for the original pony car.
