Tesla Autopilot: Drop the Double Pull - Just Single Pull - It's Cleaner - And More Software Updates

Tesla just released a software update that allows Autopilot to be activated with a single pull down on the right stalk. This is a cleaner and simpler way to do it instead of making it a double pull down.

Tesla Software Update Simplifies Autopilot

In reference to the movie, "The Social Network", where Sean Parker tells Mark Zuckerberg to drop the "The" from "The Facebook", this situation with Tesla Autopilot is no different. A cleaner solution has been created by Tesla that is less complicated.

In Tesla's latest software release, 2023.38.9, there is now an option to modify Autopilot activation to be a single pull of the right stalk instead of a double pull. This is a great and needed software update.

There are many times that I pull down twice on the right stalk and Autopilot doesn't activate, but instead, Adaptive Cruise Control does instead. I then have to double pull down again to try and get Autopilot to activate.

With this update, it won't be such a frustrating process and will be cleaner and simpler.

One note about this update is that once you disengage Autopilot with the single pull, you will also disable Adaptive Cruise Control as well, which is different from the double pull method, which will only deactivate Autopilot.

Still, I like the single pull anyway because when I disable Autopilot, most of the time, I also want to disable Adaptive Cruise Control and drive manually.

I'm also assuming that this will be an option for enabling Tesla FSD - one pull of the right stalk to enable FSD.

Further Tesla Software Updates

Tesla is known for its over the air software updates. One lesser known update that is released a while back is making the turn signal turn off once you have entered a new lane. This prevents a turn signal from being left on.

More changes from 2023.38.9 (November 21, 2023, release)

Another feature that comes with the latest update is that a passenger in the back seat can listen on wireless Bluetooth headphones when watching the Theater app on the rear touchscreen. My Model 3 RWD doesn't have this, but other Tesla vehicles, like the Model 3 Highland, do.

If your vehicle is in a crash, the hazard lights that are still functioning will flash faster to be more visible.

Tesla will also now forecast the availability and wait time by factoring in the travel time for you and other Tesla vehicles that are en route to Superchargers.

You can also share your location data which will allow your vehicle to communicate directly to the Tesla app and other apps, however, Tesla will not track your location.

Service mode now includes a new Brakes panel that lets you diagnose certain brake-related hardware, such as the wheel speed sensors, the electronic park brake, and the electronic stability program.

This latest update has some wonderful changes, and I'm looking forward to testing out the single pull Autopilot activation!

The single pull autopilot is a great idea in principal. But it really sucks for navigating lane changes on highways. Car starts to decelerate and you have to put your foot back on the pedal to keep it at speed.

It is a terrible feature.

I live in the UK. Auto pilot is good on motorways, but is terrible on twisty road.

On a typical journey I use both autopilot and adaptive cruise control.

With this new feature I can either use autopilot, or cruise control on a journey. I cannot switch between them.

I have had a model 3 for nearly 4 years. This is the worst update yet. It doesn't let me turn it off.

I was going to order a new model 3. But this, on top of the lack of indicator stalks may push me to a Kia :(
