A Tesla Cybertruck Leaves Mid-Engined C8 Corvette Z06 in the Dust During 1st Performance Comparison – Cybertruck is Redefining What it Means to Drive an American Muscle Car

In the first-ever comparison between the best American sports cars, the C8 Corvette Z06 and the Cybertruck, the full-sized pickup truck leaves the sports car in the dust. The Cybertruck is redefining what it means to be an American muscle car.

When electric vehicles first came onto the scene, the battery-powered cars were lauded for their environmental benefits even though they were criticized for being slow and unappealing.

Then came the Tesla Roadster, which matched the performance and styling of the best sports cars the internal combustion world had to offer.

The Model S built on the Roadster’s success and became the fastest-accelerating production vehicle in the world despite being a specious 4-door sedan that can comfortably seat five adults and has enough bells and whistles to challenge any luxury vehicle.

As the electric vehicle’s domination of the automotive world grew, the last vehicle segment left untapped by battery-powered vehicles was the pickup truck market.

However, with the introduction of the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, Hummer EV, and most recently, the Tesla Cybertruck, the electric vehicle's domination appears to have grown to encompass all vehicle segments.

However, before we send internal combustion vehicles packing, there is one comparison left to do between one of the best-rated ICE vehicles and the hottest electric vehicle currently on sale.

That’s a performance comparison between the mid-engined, 2-door, latest generation C8 Corvette Z06 and the tri-motor Cybertruck.

In reality, the most appropriate matchup between a Tesla and the Corvette Z06 would be with the next-generation Roadster.

However, that vehicle has been delayed for several years, so until Tesla comes out with a proper sports car, we have to settle for a comparison with the Performance Cybertruck.

Lucky for us, Throttle House, the Canadian YouTube channel hosted by the duo James and Thomas, has compared the performance of the Cybertruck with that of a Z06 Corvette.

In the first iteration of the test, the YouTubers pit the Cybertruck against the Corvette Z06 in a standing quarter-mile test. In this test, the Cybertruck annihilates the Corvette Z06, finishing the drag race several car lengths ahead of the sports car.

At this point, I can hear some of you saying a quarter-mile race between the Corvette Z06 and the Cybertruck isn’t fair because the Z06 is a rear-wheel drive vehicle while the Cybertruck is all-wheel drive.

Undoubtedly, having an all-wheel drive powertrain during a short launch test gives a significant advantage against a rear-wheel drive vehicle, but then again, the Cybertruck is a full-sized pickup truck that can tow 11,000 lbs, haul 2500 lbs, and seat five adults.

In contrast, the Corvette is a mid-engined sports car purpose-built for performance so that is that.

Luckily for the Corvette Z06, the sports car is able to save face in a rolling quarter-mile race starting from 50 miles an hour. At the higher speed, the Corvette is able to finish the quarter mile ahead of the Cybertruck.

However, if we put the vehicles in a real-world environment, perhaps a short race at a stop light, the Cybertruck will be able to outrun the Corvette Z06 at speeds below the legal limit which is about 80 miles per hour in most of the country.

Officially, there’s a new American muscle car champion, and surprisingly, it’s a full-sized electric truck. Currently, this is all the information we’ve regarding the comparison between the two vehicles; however, we’ll be sure to keep you posted if we get further information.

So what do you think? Surprised to see a Tesla Cybertruck completely dominating a Corvette Z06 in a quarter-mile race? Do you consider the Cybertruck an American muscle car? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
