Subaru’s WRX STI Plays Brief but Thrilling Role in New Fast and Furious 8; BRZ also Gets a Part

Subaru’s WRX STI plays a brief but thrilling role in the new Fast and Furious 8 film. What about BRZ?

The Subaru WRX STI takes on the bad guys (and girls) in the new Fast and Furious 8 “Fate of the Furious” film that hit big screens this weekend. The STI plays a brief but thrilling role in the new film. The white Subaru WRX STI is the perfect car, as it makes an appearance in the “ice scene” as Dom and his band of misfits try to out-run an attack submarine in the frozen Arctic. The STI’s Symmetrical all-wheel-drive keeps it from being swallowed up as the high-performance sedan grips the ice.

This is the film for car enthusiasts. The WRX STI is just one of about 300 cars that were specially built for the movie. The most notable cars include Dom’s 1968 “Dodge Ice Charger,” a Local Motors Rally Fighter, an orange Lamborghini Murcielago, TEJ’s Ripsaw tank, the Ice Ram, a Bentley Continental, 1966 Chevy Corvette Stingray, Mercedes-AMG GT, and a Jaguar F-Type Coupe.

What about the BRZ?

Besides the white WRX STI performance sedan, a Royal Blue 2017 Subaru BRZ was also customized for the newest Fast 8 film and plays a small part. In the city scene, all the exotics are paraded down the street, but the new car on the block is the Subaru BRZ. The two-door coupe gets a custom job with a striking wide body kit, custom grille, large rear deck spoiler, chrome wheels and white-raised lettered Toyo tires. Car and Bike says the production crew built four identical Subaru BRZs for the filming of new Fast and Furious 8, and amazingly three survived. Maybe they will be used in the next movie.

Dennis McCarthy, Picture Car Coordinator for the Fast and Furious tells Autoblog, “A new addition to the franchise, the character Little Nobody, played by Scott Eastwood, is a perfect match for the BRZ. This sport compact is an absolute blast to drive! Small, nimble and agile, it does everything right. If we would have had more time before production, turbocharging the BRZ would have been our next modification.”

The Subaru brand is not just about loading up the family pet, climbing gear and heading to the mountain peak. Their performance division is growing in fame with the Subaru WRX STI performance-tuned sedan, and now the BRZ sports coupe getting a small part in the new Fast and Furious 8 ““Fate of the Furious” film that hit big screens this weekend.
