Subaru Japan announces a new 2017 BRZ GT. What sets it apart?

Subaru Japan will be offering an exclusive 2017 BRZ GT model for the Japan market. For once, US fans don’t get left out. It will be close to the US-spec 2017 BRZ Series.Yellow Special Edition they will ship to the US. The Japan model is limited to just 100 units and will be available this fall. U.S. buyers will have to wait until 2017 to get theirs.

The 2017 BRZ GT gets unique yellow interior accents, Brembo performance brakes and SACHS performance shocks. It’s a similar BRZ performance package offered on all 2017 BRZs in North America.

What sets it apart?

BRZ GT features Brembo calipers and larger rotors on both front and rear brakes for better stopping power. Subaru says the advanced braking system gives BRZ a significant boost in stopping power, fade resistance, and pedal feel. performance sports coupe also gets SACHS Performance shock absorbers on all four corners for improved ride and corning stability. Outside it comes with special 17-in x 7.5-in 10-spoke aluminum alloy wheels.

Like its US counterpart, the cabin gets black leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrasting yellow stitching throughout the interior. This comes on the seats, door and dash panels, steering wheel, knee pads and shifter boot. The front seatbacks are embroidered with a yellow BRZ logo. It also features carpeted floor mats with yellow stitching and a silver embroidered BRZ logo.

What's under the hood of the BRZ GT?

The new 2017 BRZ GT powerplant gets several internal updates for friction reduction including new valves, camshaft and cylinder heads. Accompanied with a new aluminum intake manifold and redesigned exhaust manifold for increased air flow, the engine output in models with the 6-speed manual transmission is increased to 205hp and 156 lb-ft of torque.

Will performance improve?

Subaru says acceleration will improve on 6-speed manual models with a new lower final drive ratio from 4.1 to 4.3:1. It’s mated with the standard Torsen limited-slip differential. The exclusive new 2017 Subaru BRZ GT will be available in Japan this fall. For once, US fans don’t get left out. They will get a similar performance model like their Japanese counterparts.
