Among Small SUVs, Subaru Crosstrek Stands Tall Above The Rest Says Car Guide

What are the best subcompact SUVs for Canadian customers? There are many reasons why the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is the best for U.S. and Canadian customers. Should you consider it?

I like covering the Canadian awards because they know extreme weather and why Subaru stands out. Car Guide picked the best subcompact SUVs and said the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek stands tall above the rest. The Crosstrek is a perennial winner because it suits the Canadian lifestyle and climate. But there's more.

First, read what Car Guide says, and then I will give subcompact SUV shoppers more information they may not know.

Car Guide picked the Crosstrek over the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Mazda CX-30 as its top three picks.

  2. Toyota Corolla Cross
  3. Mazda CX-30

First, what does Car Guide say about the 2024 Crosstrek?

"Completely redesigned for 2024 and blessed with an improved chassis, it's a perfect example of a manufacturer building on a winning recipe.

Why do they love it so much?

"Primarily because this small SUV is ideally suited to road and weather conditions in Canada, with Subaru's excellent symmetrical all-wheel drive technology as standard and generous ground clearance on top of that. Snow, ice, storms, and more never seem to be a problem for the Crosstrek."

"While the base 2.0-liter engine is decent at best with 152 horsepower, the available 2.5-liter mill delivers ample power and torque, resulting in pleasant acceleration. The plug-in hybrid variant is gone, which doesn't really matter, considering its extremely short EV range and high price.

2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness side viewThe star in the lineup is the new-for-2024 Crosstrek Wilderness.

"This model can take you farther off-road thanks to all-terrain tires, a raised suspension with longer travel, and extra body cladding. If you live out of town and regularly spend time in the mountains, it's fantastic—except for reduced fuel economy, of course."

MY TAKE

I think these six things are essential for subcompact SUV shoppers to know:

1. All Crosstrek trims come with X-Mode. X-Mode optimizes engine output and transmission ratio, increases all-wheel drive system engagement, and uses enhanced control of the VDC system to reduce individual wheel spin, providing optimal traction on low-friction surfaces.

2. Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and Wilderness models include dual-function X-Mode. They have a Deep Snow/Mud setting for severe weather and extreme all-terrain performance.

3. The 2024 Crosstrek gets improved seats. I have sat and ridden in the new Crosstrek. The seats are vastly improved over the previous generation model, especially if you're taking a long road trip. Please read my full report here.

4. Crosstrek has a 10% stiffer chassis for improved dynamic performance and ride quality. A complete inner frame construction with more robust welding techniques and additional structural adhesive (26.2 feet to 88.5 feet) contributes to better body rigidity and less weight. According to Subaru, these updates will deliver improved dynamic performance, a smoother ride, and a quieter cabin.

5. EyeSight's latest version is standard. Subaru's EyeSight driver assist technology is now standard across all trim levels. As a result, all Crosstrek trim levels will now get the highest IIHS test scores.

6. Crosstrek is now manufactured in the U.S. factory. Canada and U.S. customers will get three Crosstrek trim levels sooner because they are now made in the U.S. factory. Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and Wilderness are now produced at Subaru's plant in Lafayette, Indiana. The Base and Premium trims will still be made in Japan.

This is the latest information regarding the Subaru Crosstrek. Stay tuned. I'll keep you updated with any new information.
