4 ways Subaru will improve performance and technology of future WRX STI

Subaru has a new building to display the 2015 WRX S4 and 2015 WRX STI. What does it tell us about the brands performance future?

New Subaru models will be on display in their new Ebisu Subaru Building, its new corporate headquarters in Tokyo. The new 2015 WRX STI and WRX S4 performance models get prominent places in the new 1st floor showroom that houses all of Subaru’s Japanese models. This new building tells us a lot about where the Japanese automaker is heading in the future.

Performance fans are concerned about what’s next for the Subaru WRX and WRX STI sports cars. The WRX has been in the U.S. since 2002 and continues to grow in popularity. We can learn much from this new Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) building that was completed just one month ago. It tells us where the brand is headed and what performance fans can look forward to.

More new vehicle launches to come

Subaru prominently displays all their new cars on the first floor, but they also built the "EBiS 303" event hall on the 3rd floor, with a maximum capacity of 1,200 people, that will be used for new vehicle launches and other events. The brand is planning more new model launches in the future that will include their performance flagship WRX STI. FHI says they will take the relocation of its corporate headquarters “as an opportunity to strengthen its competitiveness and business structure to achieve further growth.”

Subaru evokes sport and performance

The new building design can tell us a lot about what FHI and Subaru corporate executives are planning for the future. They describe the new corporate headquarters like this: The design of the Ebisu Subaru Building features a sense of "speed" and "dynamism" like those felt with their automobiles. Externally and internally, the building incorporates dynamic horizontal motifs evocative of the Subaru spirit.

Subaru is a brand on the move

They also describe the new digs with words like, invigorating communication, eco-friendly technologies, optimize building lifecycle costs, strengthen its competitiveness, and achieve further growth. This is a brand that is on the move and we’ll see many more new performance technologies that will come from Subaru.

A new generation of engine technology

When Subaru launched the new Japan-only 2015 WRX STI and 2015 WRX S4, they said the S4 tag denotes the four values of "sports performance", "safety performance", "smart driving" and "sophisticated feel.” The 2015 WRX STI comes with a new 2.0-liter powerplant that produces 227 kW (304 hp) and 422 Nm (311 lb. ft of torque). Subaru has been perfecting the new 2.0-liter powerplant in the 2015 WRX STI Nurburgring 24-hour race car this year. The testing was done by the Subaru Tecnica International's (STI) race team.

Look for Subaru’s performance cars to come with new smaller more efficient and powerful engines in the future. Their performance cars will be more eco-friendly and feature a new level of fuel efficiency. Automotive News reports that in 2016, all Subaru vehicles will get a new generation of engine technology that will include direct injection, lean-burn technology and cylinder deactivation. One of Subaru’s core values is safety and the new-performance WRX and WRX STI will come with their new-generation EyeSight safety system.

More sophistication for the WRX STI

Future WRX STIs will come with more sophisticated than ever before. They will have a more “high quality feel” in the future. This will likely include more luxury and comfort in the cabin of the performance sports sedans. The new 2015 WRX and WRX STI are more upscale than the previous generation WRX/STI performance car. Look for more high-quality materials and more high-tech features in the future.

Continued motorsport involvement

Look for Subaru to continue to perfect their performance cars in their motorsports involvement with STI. They may be looking to get back into WRC with the new-generation WRX STI. There are good things ahead for the performance WRX and WRX STI. The 2015 WRX S4 and 2015 WRX STI get new digs and are prominently displayed in their new Ebisu Subaru Building in Tokyo. The brand is committed to performance and we’ll see improved performance, safety, sophistication and new engine technologies in the future for WRX STI.
