April 2020 Camaro of the Month: Ray Janicke's 1991 Z28

The TorqueNews/Camaros Unlimited Camaro of the Month for April 2020 is the 1991 Z28 shown here, owned by Ray Janicke.

TorqueNews has worked with the members from the Camaros Unlimited Facebook group to select our Camaro of the Month for several years now. The process begins with more than 45,000 members from the Camaros Unlimited Facebook page nominating their favorite Chevrolet Camaro owned by a fellow member of the page. Once five owners have been nominated, the voting begins and when the balloting closes – we have our Camaro of the Month.

For April 2020, the members chose this sweet 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, owned by Ray Janicke. We reached out to Janicke, who provided the following information and all of the images shown here.

I picked up the car in May of 2019, got a good deal on it. I have not had a cool hot rod in many years and I had been looking for a while when I came across the car I have today.

It is a 1991 Chevy Camaro Z28, auto with a 305. It is all original except for the paint. I believe it was repainted a few years back. It has just hit 70,000 miles and runs great. I just wanted something that looked cool and I always loved the third gen Camaros, especially with the raised spoiler. There are not many of these around my area and with the color, it definitely stands out. I was looking for something cool and different just to cruise around in. Not worried about doing engine swaps or full restoration, just something fun to drive!

Just made some subtle changes like headlights, turn signal housings and some interior things that needed replacing. The cassette player still works and I have lots of those. I did get 18 inch IROC replica rims for it this year. I think they look the best. Maybe do some suspension and exhaust work this summer but overall, I like it the way it is. Just getting out and driving it is so much fun, get lots of compliments.

Congratulations to Ray Janicke and his 1991 Z28 for winning the TorqueNews/Camaros Unlimited Camaro of the Month for April 2020.

I had an '86 Camaro Z-28 with the tuned port injection. Had the T-top too. Enjoyed the car, but I am not quite as limber as I use to be, so entry/exit is more challenging. Got rid of the car about 2 years ago. Never did anything to the engine or transmission. Did replace 2 rear ends (complete axle assembly). Evidently there was an issue with these cars and rear ends because I never abused the car. Personally, I think this is the generation Camaro that GM should use for their restyled Camaro from the get go. Aerodynamic enough without being too 'slick'. Pics bring back memories!
