Manual transmissions seem to be going the way of the dodo bird. So whenever an automaker announces one of their vehicles is getting the option of a manual, it's time for a celebration.

Audi will be offering the 2017 A4 with the option of a six-speed manual on models equipped 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder and quattro all-wheel drive. Audi says this makes the A4 the only vehicle in the class to offer a manual transmission with standard all-wheel drive.

The manual transmission is all new with magnesium, some hollow components, and a smaller clutch being used. Compared to the last manual transmission on offer for the A4, the new one is 35.3 pounds lighter. Paired with a punchier 2.0L, the A4 manual can hit 60 mph in 5.7 seconds - 0.7 seconds faster than the last model.

Audi will also be offering some special for the A4 manual, a new Sport Plus package. This includes a lowered suspension, Audi dynamic steering, 18-inch wheels, flat-bottom steering wheel, and S line leather/Alcantara interior with sport seats.

The best part of the A4's manual transmission option? It is a no-cost option. So that means you'll pay $40,350 for the base Premium for either the manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Price includes a $950 destination charge.
