I’m one of those Southern California kids that was bottle feed on high octane racing fuel, burning tire rubber, and the occasional shot of ether based starting fluid. Sure, big block V8s and positraction rear ends were cool, but the real, affordable fun of the day could be had from the subcompact cars coming out of Europe and Japan. The car side of American Honda morphed from a small storefront in downtown Los Angeles.

Out of the 1960s pre safety and smog check days of air so thick that one could cut it with a whisper, came American Honda Motor Company. Born out of the founder’s fondness of racing, these clean burning, high revving front-wheel-drive mini cars of the era would lead the way for the market resurgence and ultimate dominance of the affordable, long lasting, small displacement, Honda Accord, and Civic. The Civic Type R is scheduled for a late Spring arrival.

Remarkably, Honda won in its first year of Formula 1 competition

Out of the race inspired birth of the Honda brand, comes not only the reinvention of the Honda lineup over the past two years, but the introduction of the manufactured in the U.S.A. Earthdream series of super low emissions, turbocharged 4 cylinder engines. From that advent comes the 10th generation Civic Si, and the first Civic to were the Type-R designation in the United States.

This is an exciting time to be a Honda performance fan. I'll be sitting behind the wheel of the 2017 Civic Si by months end. Watch Honda capture the race inspired Civic Si and Type R this short but well made 30 second video.it’s well worth viewing.
