2014 Honda Accord sets 40 year sales record in August. We know why Accord is the best selling midsize sedan in North America.

Accord, the best selling midsize sedan in North America sets a new all-time sales record for August with American Honda Motors recording it’s 3rd best month in 40 years. Torque News take a closer look at 2014 Accord.

With 51,705 units sold for August, Accord leads the Honda charge with a 32.5% increase over August 2013, recording the best sales month in Honda’s 40 year North America history. Civic sales are off a bit with Odyssey minivan sales on the rise. Also noted is the exceptionally successful debut of Acura’s new TLX. We like TLX, so does North America.

Sure, Honda’s “Summer Clearence Event" has helped push Accord sales to record highs, but we believe there’s a bit more to Accord's success than sales incentives.

The back story: We reported here that Accord had set month over month sales increases for the first half of 2014. In a recent visit to one of our favorite Honda dealers, Torque News rediscovered a better than average handling front wheel drive 4 door sedan in the form of Accord.

With surprising engine performance, flawless transmission options, top of class interior accommodations and ergonomics, 2014 Accord is offered in six trims with a beginning MSRP of $22,105 for the basic, yet very drivable LX 4 cylinder with 6 speed manual transmission.

For top of class fuel economy we recommend the 2.4 liter 185 horsepower i-VTEC direct injected 4 cylinder with CVT.

Torque News recently compared the Accord 2014 EX-L with V6 to the Acura TLX and found the Accord to be a not-so compromised step down from the TLX. And that’s what we believe drives Accord sales, affordable, performance, built in higher than standard quality, safety, relative comfort and personal connectivity. You can read our test drive here.

While 2014 Honda Accord is not the lowest priced 4 door sedan in it’s segment, Accord does offer more standard features than the competition and at 50 + %, holds the highest residual resale or trade in value in the industry.

Honda Accord is built in North America and enjoys a 40 year multiple generational ownership history. It’s not unusual to find a vintage Accord with 250,000 miles on the odometer handed down through the generations. And that’s why we believe Honda Accord is the best selling midsize sedan in North America.

I bought one in August, so that's why they had a great month! I was looking a Civic, and just for fun looked at the Accord. It was what I was planning on spending on the Civic, perhaps less.
