The Real Life of a Vehicle Defined
In many ways the life of a car and your own life are very similar. For example, you cannot survive very long or well with the loss of any one of the majority of your organs. The same holds true for any one of a number of components that goes into your engine---with the exception of emissions control devices. I’ve seen a number of cars with those components failed or stripped and they still run, but perhaps not as well as they should.

Not to belabor the comparison, let’s move onto what is the most important comparison/expectation the two share: Life expectancy.
According to the Car Wizard YouTube channel, what the manufacturer believes is the life expectancy of your car differs markedly of what car owners believe is and should be the life expectancy of their car.

In fact, the Car Wizard asks the non-rhetorical question “When you or I think of the life of a vehicle…what comes to mind?” His answer to the question is that for most car owners, the belief is that of 300,000-plus miles. However, if you follow the car manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule or plan, the reality of how long your car will really last is only until that of the warranty period: 5-years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
