In BMW M’s promotion of the new 2016 BMW M2 Coupe, they show the car drifting in photos and videos. Why won’t M2 owners every do this?

When BMW M2 owners finally get their hands on the new coupe, they could take their performance car drifting but they probably won’t. A high percentage of M2 owners will never take their cars to the track and drift the performance car like BMW’s promo video below. It’s a great way to have some adrenaline-pumping fun, but also an expensive way to do it.

Would you destroy a very expensive set of tires by doing power drifts around the track like professional BMW drivers. It’s not very likely. Then why does BMW promote the M2 like this? Because the M2 is a highly capable track machine and what better way to show how the performance suspension will handle extreme drifting techniques reserved for the track pros. It’s a brilliant way to get performance enthusiasts excited about the cars potential.

The new M2 rolls of the assembly line in Leipzig drift-ready. It comes equipped with M Dynamic Mode (MDM), a sub-function of Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). This reduces oversteer or understeer and loss of traction. On the track, the driver can activate the M Dynamic Mode Sport plus mode for greater control during power drifts on the track.

BMW released a short video of the M2 at the track drifting at the the German automaker’s performance center. The professional driver is squeezing every bit of tire-burning performance out of the new 2016 BMW M2 Coupe. BMW can afford to put a new set of meats on the newest member of the M family as often as they need to. Unless you have lots of money, M2 owners won’t be getting their tires this hot. Check out how BMW M likes to entertain M performance fans.
