The Subaru WRX STI performance sedan and BRZ sports coupe are the fastest selling used sports cars in America. See where they rank and if you should buy one.

If you can’t afford to buy a new performance-tuned 2019 Subaru WRX STI, sport-tuned WRX or BRZ sports coupe, you can look at buying a used model. But it may not be easy finding one. According to a report by TheDrive.com, The Subaru WRX/STI is one of the top-10 fastest-selling used sports cars in America. It’s #5 on the list and only stays on dealer lots for 39.9 days.

Subaru’s performance division, Subaru Tecnica International (STI) uses the WRX/STI and BRZ to help develop the driving dynamics in the Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek. It’s what sets the brand apart from other small SUVs and part of the reason why the Japanese automaker has a cult-like following.

The WRX STI is Subaru’s flagship performance car and is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 310hp. The large wing, Boxer engine rumble, and it’s superior driving dynamics make it a performance fan favorite. The WRX is a milder version of the WRX STI with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 268hp and it makes a good daily driver with its sport-tuned suspension.

The Subaru BRZ could be the best sports car value in America. It’s going to be harder to find one as it only sits on the dealer lots for 36.1 days and comes in at #3 on the top-ten list of fastest selling used cars in the US. It’s Subaru’s only rear-drive car they produce and it comes with a 2.0-liter Boxer engine producing 200-205hp depending on what year you buy.

Here’s the list of top-10 fastest-selling cars in America. #10 BMW M3/M4 (50 days), Dodge Challenger (49.7 days), #8 Dodge Charger (47.9 days), #7 Ford Mustang (47.4 days), #6 Mazda MX-5 RF (42.8 days), #5 Subaru WRX/STI (39.9 days), #4 Volkswagen Golf GTI (36.8 days), #3 Subaru BRZ (36.1 days), #2 Hyundai Veloster Turbo (36.0 days), and #1 Volkswagen Golf R (34.4 days).

If you want a good used Subaru WRX/STI or Subaru BRZ you will need to do your homework. They are in high demand and they do hold their value better than any sports cars. According to Kelly Blue Book, the WRX holds its value better than any other compact sports car and you likely won’t find a good deal on a used one. KBB says the enthusiast-favorite 2018 WRX has resale value at 36 months (57.8 percent) and at 60 months (46.2 percent). That’s up from last year’s 2017 model that had a resale value at 36 months of 55.2 percent, and at 60 months, 45.4 percent. This year the 2018 WRX performance sedan beats the 2018 Ford Focus RS and 2018 Honda Civic Si to take top honors again.
