The new Subaru Impreza gets re-imagined and a complete redesign. What improvements did Subaru make?

The all-new generation 2017 Subaru Impreza sedan and 5-Door was re-imagined and gets a complete remodel from the ground up. How did Subaru do it? In the video below, Subaru Australia explains in detail what engineers did to improve the new compact car over the outgoing model.

It starts with Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD drivetrain. It gets better balance, lower weight transfer, and more grip during cornering. All Subarus, except the BRZ sports coupe, send power to all four corners, and the new Impreza has twice the grip under acceleration as most compact cars on the road. It’s what has defined the brand for four decades.

A new architecture

The biggest improvement comes from the new Subaru Global Platform that was developed for all new-generation Subarus to follow. The new architecture improves driving dynamics and safety in the new sedan and 5-Door. Engineers accomplished this by increasing rigidity which also gives it more responsive control, improved straight-line stability, and a quieter cabin.

The revamped Direct Injection Boxer engine gets improved performance with a low center of gravity which improves stability and ramps up the fun-to-drive meter. It comes mated a to a new Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) that Subaru says delivers a smoother power delivery, and improved acceleration.

Improved safety

Moving up from the frame, Subaru uses a reinforced cabin structure that surrounds the occupants inside, and the structure absorbs energy from collision. The new Impreza has already received the maximum 5 star safety rating from Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

Inside, the new Impreza gets a new interior with more high-tech features with intuitive entertainment, multiple information screens, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Subaru’s latest version of their EyeSight driver assist safety system is available and offers extra awareness and a second set of eyes.

Outside, it gets new exterior styling with a wider and lower stance. The all-new generation 2017 Subaru Impreza gets re-imagined from the ground up. It looks like it’s going to be a winner for the brand.
