Subaru of America announced new Crosstrek sales, which are still hot, but the subcompact SUV lost its number-one ranking. See why the subcompact SUV has lost its top-selling status to the impressive Outback.
The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV has been the sales leader until this year. But the hot Crosstrek compact SUV has lost its number-one selling status in Subaru of America's (SOA) all-wheel-drive lineup. SOA reported that June sales are up for eleven consecutive months, and the Crosstrek played a key role.
The Crosstrek is not number one.
The hot Crosstrek subcompact has impressive June sales, but not as good as the recently-redesigned Outback midsize SUV. As a result, Crosstrek was the second-best performer last month by volume, up 29.3 percent, with 13,802 sales in June compared with 10,676 in June 2023. The Crosstrek is now up 8.7 percent for the year's first six months.
The newly upgraded 2023 Subaru Outback midsize SUV is on top again, increasing 23.5 percent in June, with 16,225 models sold compared with 13,135 in June 2022.
Crosstrek dropped to second overall in the lineup behind Outback year to date, with 76,130 models sold. However, the Outback still leads all models with 81,403 midsize SUVs delivered to customers in the first six months of 2023.
Next-generation Crosstrek models arrive now.
The Subaru Crosstrek will challenge the Outback with its new models. Customers are already purchasing the all-new next-generation 2024 Crosstrek Base and Premium trim levels that are arriving now at U.S. retailers. Last month, the first new Crosstrek Sport and Limited trims rolled off the Subaru of Indiana Automotive assembly line, and the new 2024 Premium and Base trims are here from Japan.
Subaru is now producing the 2024 Crosstrek Sport and Crosstrek Limited, which arrive this summer, and the all-new 2024 outdoor-themed Crosstrek Wilderness trims, which come this fall. For the first time, all three trim levels are produced in the Subaru of Indiana Automotive plant.
Look for sales of the next-generation Crosstrek to continue the hot streak as the first new models arrive this month. The remodeled 2024 Crosstrek gets significant upgrades from the second-generation models. The Sport and Limited trims are powered by the re-tuned, slightly more powerful 2.5-liter Boxer engine, producing 182 hp and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. Check out the complete model change guide here.
What is the price of the 2024 Crosstrek?
For 2024, the Crosstrek will be available in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trim levels and has a starting price of $26,290 (the same MSRP as the 2023 Base model equipped with the Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission).
The 2024 Crosstrek Premium has a starting price of $27,440, Sport ($30,290), and Limited ($32,190). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,225).
What is the price of the Crosstrek Wilderness?
The all-new Crosstrek Wilderness costs $33,290, including dealer destination and delivery fees ($1,295).
The Crosstrek drops to second place in the all-wheel-drive lineup in the year's first half. As Subaru of Indiana Automotive produces the first next-generation Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trims, look for the subcompact SUV to challenge Outback for the first-place crown in the year's second half.
