The new BMW M2 will make its dealer launch with only four colors. Why won’t buyers be able to get red, orange or yellow?

BMW enthusiasts won’t be able to get three popular colors on the new BMW M2 Coupe when it makes its dealer launch next spring. Don’t look for red, orange or yellow on the new M2 because only four colors will be offered. The only exterior colors will be the official launch color, Long Beach Blue and three others, Alpine White, Mineral Grey and Sapphire Black. Why won’t BMW M offer more colors?

The new M2 Coupe is being built at only one plant, the German plant in Leipzig which also produces the BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 1 Series 5-door on the main line. It’s the paint booth that’s to blame.

2 reasons why M2 gets only four colors

For one, it’s the most capital-intensive section of any automobile plant. An example is: The body shop and assembly are scheduled for an average 80-hour week, while painting, spraying and drying operations in the Leipzig paint shop, generally run for more than 120 hours a week.

The second and most critical reason is, the Leipzig paint shop is the first of its kind and only uses the most environment-friendly paint technologies. They use only water-based color paints and powder-based clear paint. Excess powder is collected and recycled and waste heat is also recovered and used to heat the paint booths. The bottom line is, BMW’s Leipzig plant is as free of emissions as it is full of technological innovations and sustainable concepts. The paint booth is the prime location for the newest environmentally friendly innovations.

We aren’t sure, but red, orange and yellow must not be environmentally friendly colors. It’s too bad because BMW M fans have come to expect some cool colors on their high-performance M cars. The official launch color, Long Beach Blue is the only new color of the four on the new BMW M2 Coupe. We would definitely choose the Sakhir Orange Metallic that comes on the M3/M4 or Austin Yellow Metallic. It’s what sets the M models apart from the competition. It’s the price BMW M2 performance enthusiasts will have to pay to save the planet.

Lol 3 reasons? This is 1. It's a poor reason considering all the other articles are rooting for it on here creating more hype. Colors don't mean much when the car as a whole is awesome

NOT true... Valencia Orange cars are painted at Leipzig. So are red cars. The 1M is exclusive to the Leipzig plant and 1 of the 4 colors it came in was VO, also the X1 was painted there in VO as are 128s/135s in red
