Yes, the 100 special ones are now sold. We warned you! However, there are still great Miatas to be had.

The best Miata that one can buy new is now sold out. The 2015 25th Anniversary MX-5 Miata sold out in 10 minutes. As the saying goes, you snooze, you looze. Fans of the Miata that were hoping to get a car made from hand-selected parts, with custom interiors making each one unique can now only pray that Mazda will release more of these instant collectibles.

If you are a fan of Torque News you cannot say that you weren’t warned. Our previous overview of the 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition and our second heads up regarding the program details were very popular stories. Fear not, if you didn’t get one now for about $30K they will likely be available for about $35K in 10 years.

Mazda is in collaboration with Fiat for the next generation Miata, which we thought would come in 2015, but apparently it will not be any sooner than a model year 2016, possibly as late as a 2020 model. The most recent update from Mazda on the subject other than “no comment” was a chassis displayed at an auto show this spring. No engines, no transmissions, no bodies, no real car to show at this point.

The truth is that unless you were planning to keep this special edition as Sunday driver and investment car there are other equally good choices at the Mazda dealership near you. You can most likely get a car from inventory if you look around. The cars have not changed in any significant way since the 2006.5 model year when this new generation was launched. If you buy used or CPO, look for a 2009 or later, as there were some minor upgrades to the connecting rods and transmission synchro materials we know (from having owned this generation) are worth the money. We strongly suggest either a “Club” version or Grand Touring with the suspension package if you want a real Miata. Lesser trims don’t have the go-fast bits and options you will wish you got.

What you meant to say was:

"Fear not, if you didn't get one now for about $32K, they will likely be available for less than $15K in 10 years"
