No 2015 Ford Mustang V6 in Europe - but EcoBoost Could Make it a Huge Success

The 2015 Ford Mustang was designed with the goal of being a global performance car in mind and while buyers across Europe will be able to purchase the S550 Mustang within the next year or so – they will likely not be able to pick the 3.7L V6 base engine that American buyers enjoy for its mix of power and efficiency.

Part of owning an American performance car in other countries outside of North America is being able to boast about the muscular V8 engine tucked under the hood but when the 2015 Ford Mustang hits European shores late this year or early in 2015, it will also come with a more efficient and likely less expensive engine option. While most European Mustang buyers would probably prefer to have the 420 horsepower 5.0L V8, these American powerplants demand a premium price in European markets and that makes those cars out of the financial reach of some buyers.

In the United States, potential 2015 Mustang buyers who are more interested in the look than the performance can opt for the popular 3.7L V6 but due to the various whacky emission laws in Europe, that engine isnt powerful enough to justify the emission levels.

This is why the Chevrolet Camaro is only offered with the V8 engine of the American SS models but when the 2015 Mustang arrives – the new EcoBoost engine will provide prospective European buyers with a more eco-friendly option with comparable power to the 3.7L V6.

EcoBoost technology has proven itself around the world so when it arrives in the European market under the hood of the 2015 Ford Mustang, it should be far more acceptable to overseas buyers than our base V6. Although the power output is only slightly better than the base V6 (similar horsepower, more torque), the new EcoBoost 4-cylinder mill should offer vastly superior fuel economy and emission levels.

As will be the case here in the US, the EcoBoost Mustang will carry a premium price but it should cost European buyers less than the 5.0L V8 so it will be within the reach of more prospective buyers. If nothing else, the new EcoBoost should give the 2015 Mustang a leg up on European buyers who are looking to get into an American performance car on a budget while keeping fuel economy in mind. It might sound silly for someone to worry about those aspects when buying a “foreign” performance car but the less powerful Mustang should sell well overseas for the same reasons that it sells well here in the US.

While the Chevrolet Camaro might be the bestselling performance car here in the United States, the introduction of the 2015 Ford Mustang across the various global markets could bring about enough sales for Ford to name the Mustang the bestselling muscle car in the world. It has a look that Ford Motor Company believes will resonate well with buyers outside of the US while still maintaining the Mustang look that is so essential – with a drivetrain lineup that offers big power and big fuel economy as to appeal to a broader audience.

Hoping to purchase a V8! I only do around 3000 miles per year so fuel economy isn't my big worry, it maybe the over-inflated price when brought over to the UK. I'f I lived in the US I could afford to buy a brand new V8 every year!
