July 2020 Camaro of the Month: Bill Yowell's 1967 SS

Work for Torque News, follow on Twitter, Youtube and Facebook.

This 1967 Cheverolet Camaro SS is a gorgeous high performance machine that draws a crowd at any show, but to the Yowell family, this car is about enjoying life while working through a serious illness.

For several years now, TorqueNews has been working with the Camaros Unlimited Facebook group to select the Camaro of the Month. Each month, more than 46,000 serious Camaro lovers nominate their favorite car that is owned by another member of the group. Once five nominees are picked, the members vote to pick their favorite of those five and the winner is our Camaro of the Month.

For July 2020, the community of Chevy muscle car fans picked the stunning 1967 Camaro SS shown here, owned by Bill Yowell. While this car is a beautiful showpiece with modified big block power, this car has a special place in the life of Bill and his wife, who is battling cancer. We reached out to Bill Yowell and below, you will find the story of his 1967 Camaro SS.

The Yowell’s 1967 Camaro SS
It is an original factory 1967 Camaro SS and it came with 396-375 hp. My wife and I have always been car buffs and have had several fun cars. What makes this Camaro special is that my wife has stage 4 Cancer and she always liked the 67 Camaros.

I started looking for one to buy soon as I sold my street rod. I was very lucky to have come across this 1967. It had everything I was looking for, so needless to say, I told my wife what I found and she was delighted. I bought the car and when she saw it the smile on her face was worth the world, I was so thankful to see her happy.

I went to work on it to make changes for our liking. We added lots of chrome on the engine, which is a 454 stroked to 489 cubic inches. I made a custom console out of wood and covered it to match the black leather interior. I cut and polished mirror stainless steel plate to enhance the Hurst Quick shifter. I enclosed the trunk area by making panels out of wood and using Velcro on each panel together for a nice fit then covered them in matching black leather to give the trunk a nice finished look.

Making the changes on our Camaro to our liking has been a lot of fun and to get such great compliments on it has meant the world to us. Of course, to see the excitement on my wife's face is such a blessing. We have named our Camaro "Blessed Assurance" and we give God the Glory to enjoy our hobby.

Also to mention a few upgrades.
-The car was redone in 2008 from a factory Gold/ White Top to it's present color, Mercedes Cubinite Silver Metallic. The color changes in the light.
-Steel 4" Cowl Hood
-Power Steering
-Power Brakes
-Turbo 400 transmission with 2500 Stall with a Shift kit
-12 Bolt Rear End with Positive Traction with 342 Gears
-Strong running 489 with a good sounding camshaft.
-Under the hood is super-detailed and chromed.
-It's such a reliable & fun Camaro. I drive it everywhere.

Congratulations to Bill Yowell and his wife for their 1967 Camaro SS winning the TorqueNews/Camaros Unlimited Camaro of the Month for July 2020.
