The debut of the long awaited open road driving simulator Forza Horizon is still three weeks away but the folks at Turn 10 announced today that the first playable demo of Forza Horizon will be available in the Xbox Live Marketplace next Tuesday (October 9th) – offering gamers their first chance to experience the game that is expected to set the new standard for driving simulators.

Unlike the other games in the famous Forza Motorsport lineup that take place strictly as sanctioned races on well-known closed circuit courses around the world, Forza Horizon will take place on the open roads of Colorado USA.

According to today’s announcement, there will be a handful of different cars available in the Forza Horizon demo that will offer our first look at a variety of new forms of racing to the Forza series –including some off-road racing and a street race across the Finley Dam. For the first time, gamers will experience the dynamics of the Forza graphics generator on dirty roads that offer less than ideal handling along with other variables not seen before in the Forza Motorsport races.

In addition to giving gamers their first chance to play Forza Horizon, the October 9th demo debut will integrated the “Rivals Mode” system that will allow gamers to compare their performance against the results of their online “friends” across the Xbox Live network. Finally, the Forza Horizon demo will allow players to check out a portion of the Colorado road map that will be used for the new race – introducing devout Forza gamers to their first time exploring the open road in a Turn 10 game.

As if getting to play Forza Horizon ahead of the October 23rd launch of the full game isn’t reason enough to download the demo – those gamers who download the demo, play it and then buy the full version of the game (and play it online) will receive a special edition 2013 SRT Viper GTS. Mind you, in addition to getting both the demo and the full version of Forza Horizon along with playing them both online – gamers will need to be Xbox Live Gold members in order to get their free special edition SRT Viper. Even if demo versions aren’t your thing, if you plan to buy and play Forza Horizons online the simple act of downloading the demo and playing it online for a few minutes is a small price to pay for a limited edition SRT Viper. (Note: gamers must play both the demo and the full version of Forza Horizon online by October 31st, 2012.)

Turn 10 offered up the video below to help make the announcement of the first playable Forza Horizon demo with a look at a bunch of the cars, locations, new features and the Horizon Festival theme that is the route of the whole game. Also, the Forza Motorsports Facebook page has been revealing a few cars a day over the past few months – so far revealing 87 of the vehicles that will grace the new open road racing game. You can view that list of 87 cars below and while there are plenty of cars that enthusiasts of the game have caught in screen shots that are not on the list – the list below contains just the vehicles verified by the official FB page. We can expect a great many more cars than just 87 with some of the most well known models included in the game (like the 2013 SRT Viper) not listed thus far.
