Future of Consumer Cars: Marriage between Electric and ICE vehicles?

Nissan has announced that in 2016 it will introduce an electric car with a range extender engine, which will only serve to generate electricity for the battery. This raises a valid question on what will be the future of the consumer cars. Will they be the Hybrids like Toyota Prius and Chevy Volt or the EVs like Nissan LEAF and Tesla. My Facebook friend and an avid EV supporter Dr. Raza Khan, who drives both Chevy Volt and Nissan LEAF shares his opinion.

This country may not yet be ready to embrace the cost-effectiveness of solar panels, a battery electric vehicle (BEV) due to our addiction to cheap coal, natural gas and petroleum prices - the latter three are all dangerous to burn as if there is no tomorrow.

But I believe that the future for consumer cars will not be hybrid cars where the electric motor only kicks in at stop lights but EV-ER i.e. Electric vehicle with extended range - a vehicle that has two unique and separate motors - an electric motor to drive the cars for 50 miles on a charge and then unlimited miles on the gasoline tank such as Chevy VOLT. I am hoping that Nissan does not do mistake of what BMW did with their EV-ER of only a very small gasoline tank but do something like the VOLT and even better.

Ask me how much I save driving the Chevy VOLT and how much I save with my 36 solar panels (including the initial cost) and yes.... you will be angry why you have not done it.

This news is HUGE HUGE.

Serial EV with range extender is the future. Unless batteries are 1/2 the cost of today.

lol the comment above is hilarious.

BMW did not make a mistake - it was FORCED to put in a small gas tank. Carry a Gerry Can man.

the rule is: If you want to get your zero emission credits from the gov, your Rex cannot have more range than your battery.

lol
