When the 2015 Ford F150 hits the street later this year, it will be the first half ton truck sold in America to feature high tech LED headlights – bringing a sharp look, better lighting while driving and better durability than the traditional filament-based headlight bulbs to the bestselling vehicle in America.

Since the 2015 Ford F150 was introduced at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, Ford Motor Company has been a little tight lipped on the details of the engine lineup for the next generation of America’s bestselling vehicle so we thought that today would be a good day to put together what we know for sure to help clear up any current confusions.

There has been talk for years about bringing back a "true" compact truck, ala the 1970s-80s size, back to the U.S. market. For many truck buyers, the new pickups have grown too large and too powerful for their needs. Many think a Chevy LUV type vehicle may do very well. Apparently, GM does too and may be seriously considering bringing one to the market.

The latest shot heard round the auto industry came today as Ford Motor Company announced that the 2015 F Series Super Duty lineup will feature a revised 6.7L PowerStroke diesel that will have more horsepower, more torque and the highest towing capacity in the class – although there is a catch of sorts.

With the 2014 Ridgeline fuel economy and load capacity taking 3rd position to Chevrolet and Ford, Honda will pull Ridgeline off the market for a year or two. We believe the 2016 Ridgeline will return as the #1 Hybrid pickup truck in North America.

Since the 2015 Ford F150 was introduced at the 2014 North American Auto Show in Detroit, the news that the next generation half ton Ford pickup would weigh 700 pounds less has some F Series fans concerned that the upcoming trucks won’t be able to work as hard as the current models – but I am here to assure you that there will not be any reduction in capabilities due to weight reduction.

Ford truck fans have long been hoping for a diesel powered version of the top selling F150 pickup and with the popularity of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and the plans by both Nissan and Toyota to introduce a diesel – the newest F150 could finally bring a small, powerful and efficient diesel engine to Ford’s half ton truck lineup.

Since Ford Motor Company introduced the redesigned 2015 Ford F150 at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show with a heavy dose of aluminum body panels, the automaker has been stating that the next generation half ton pickup will be around 700 pounds lighter and depending on which models are 700lbs lighter we could see a 2015 F150 that weighs under 4,000 pounds – which would be an incredible milestone for the full size truck segment.

The Ford F Series is Ford Motor Company’s bestselling vehicle while also being the bestselling vehicle in the US auto industry for more than thirty years running and FoMoCo expects that the F Series will continue to grow. Thus, the massive American automaker has announced plans to increase production capacities for the Super Duty pickups by 15% - meaning that the company can build up to 55,000 more pickups each year.

The recently introduced 2015 Ford F150 uses copious amounts of aluminum in the body panels to allow the next generation F150 to be a whopping 700 pounds lighter but the downside of this lightweight body is likely to be higher insurance costs stemming from higher repair costs when those aluminum panels are damaged.

While Ford Motor Company hasn’t divulged many details on the new 2.7L EcoBoost V6 that will power the 2015 Ford F150 but based on some of the minor details offered, we can make a few guesses as to what to expect – including the fact that the next generation F150 with the 2.7L EcoBoost will almost certainly be the most efficient half ton pickup sold in America.

During the 2013 calendar year, 19 vehicles sold at least 200,000 units in the United States and this list of the 19 bestselling vehicles in the US is led by Ford, General Motors and Toyota – each of which has four vehicles on the list of models which moved at least 200k units last year.

When the 2014 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado were introduced earlier this year with a look that is fairly similar to the previous generation, a great many critics pointed out that the newest GM half ton pickups, but after spending some time driving the new Sierra I can safely say that this is not a book that should be judged by its cover as this is THE BEST half ton GM truck ever.
