2017 Honda Ridgeline is the highest safety rated pickup truck brand in North America. How did Ridgeline, "North America’s Truck of the Year" earn the 5-Star rating?

According to American Honda

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline, recently named 2017 North American Truck of the Year, is now the only pickup truck in America to earn the highest possible safety ratings from both the U.S. government and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2017 Ridgeline earned a best possible 5-Star Overall Vehicle Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with Ridgeline already ranking as the first and only pickup to earn a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the IIHS.1

The Ridgeline pickup achieved a 5-star Overall Vehicle Rating in the NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) by scoring 5 stars in the frontal crash tests for driver and passenger, 5 stars for side crash tests for both front and rear seats, and 4 stars in the rollover test.
Personally, exceptional passive and active standard features, as well as the optional Honda Sensing™ near autonomous accident avoidance and collision mitigation technologies, (available standard on Ridgeline RT-L and higher trims,) is icing on the cake of what may very well be the most unique pickup truck offering on the market today. We spend a week in the seat of Honda’s one and only unibody pickup truck offering. 2017_Honda_Ridgeline_Grill_McCants_2017

While we may never wish to test the superior driver and passenger protection afforded by the all new Ridgeline, it’s comforting to know it’s there when you need it.
