Hot Subaru WRX/STI siblings set blistering pace

The new 2016 Subaru WRX STI is here and set a blistering sales pace in August. Why are sales of the performance sedan so hot?

Performance enthusiasts can’t get enough of the rally-bred Subaru WRX/STI. Last month it was the best month ever for the Subaru WRX/STI performance sedans and this month there is another record set by the hot siblings. Subaru of America (SOA) reports that the Subaru WRX/STI sedans had a whopping 128 percent increase in August and had the best August ever.

The hot sales of the WRX/STI have helped SOA post the second consecutive monthly sales record with the best-ever August. It was also the best August ever for stablemates XV Crosstrek, Forester and Impreza. WRX/STI gets new safety technology and infotainment upgrades which have helped keep interest strong in the performance sedans.

WRX with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 268hp with sport suspension and WRX STI with the 2.5 liter turbo 305hp powerplant with performance suspension are popular with performance enthusiasts all over the globe and especially here in the U.S. Subaru reports 22,118 WRX/STIs have been sold in the U.S. alone this year through August. Many dealers say they could sell more if they had them.

What’s up next for WRX STI is the new 2016 Subaru WRX STI Series.Hyper.Blue special edition model. Subaru will only build 700 examples of the WRX STI model. Subaru says they will offer the Hyper Blue color on the outside and offer it with matching interior trim. 2016 Subaru WRX performance sedans will not be offered in this special color and trim.
