Video update: 2015 Subaru WRX STI jumps to quick win at Sno*Drift rally in its debut

The 2015 Subaru WRX STI rally car wins the Sno*Drift rally in Atlanta, Michigan. How did they get the car dialed in so quickly?

This was the debut of the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI rally car and it didn’t disappoint the SRT USA team at Sno*Drift rally. The new 2015 STI has been in the Vermont SportsCar shop for the last year getting ready for its debut race in Atlanta, Michigan and David Higgins and Craig drew ran a flawless race with the new STI. It looks like the new WRX STI is as good as advertised and it exceeded all expectations.

The new 2015 model has been improved over the outgoing 2014 championship model and it took David Higgins and Craig Drew to a sweeping victory this weekend. The new generation STI has spent the last year in development of the new chassis. According to SRT USA, the chassis is significantly better than the outgoing model that has performed so well. Lance Smith, team owner, said, “We spent nearly a year in development of the new chassis, and the results are very promising. The 2015 STI is showing better performance out of the gate compared to our last generation of rally car.”

The course is extremely slick

Rally fans braved the cold and snow and were treated to a great performance by the rally teams. Day 2 consisted of over 70 stage miles with some stages being repeated, becoming even slicker as the day went on. SRT USA decided to use ice tires and it was the right decision as Higgins kept the new STI on the course without incident.

WRX STI is already dialed in

Rally racing is a demanding sport and it's almost unheard of for the debut of a brand new car to be completed without a single problem. The new 2015 WRX STI built by Vermont SportsCar is a powerful rally weapon. “It's really impressive to run a full race with a brand new car and not have any problems or setup changes whatsoever. It's a testament to Vermont SportsCar’s attention to detail and preparation” explained David Higgins. “The engineering and improvements that have gone into the new chassis are as evident on a rally stage as they are on the street. I think it’s a brilliant car and I can’t wait for the rest of the season!”

David Higgins and Craig Drew begin the season with an impressive start in the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI with a victory at Sno*Drift rally. Next up is Rally in the 100 Acre Wood February 27-28.
