The 10 Most And Least Loved Car Brand Rankings, Subaru Drops 3 Spots

Do Subaru owners love their vehicles as much as the automaker says? A new report reveals how much they really are loved. Check out how Subaru ranks with other car brands.

I cover the most and least loved car brands yearly, and a new study from Consumer Reports (by subscription) reveals how much Subaru owners love their all-wheel-drive vehicles. Subaru of America says it's all about love and what makes a Subaru a Subaru, but what do owners say?

A new ranking from Consumer Reports says Subaru dropped from fifth place last year to eighth this year. The rankings are based on Consumer Reports' owner satisfaction survey

Subaru drops three spots and three percentage points.

Car brands are ranked on the average percentage of owners who said in CR member surveys that they would buy the same vehicle again. The bad news is Subaru drops from 73 percent of owners saying they would buy a Subaru again to 70 percent in the latest surveys.

The good news is Subaru is the top-ranked mainstream (non-luxury) car brand in customer satisfaction this year.

How does Consumer Reports rate satisfaction?

CR says, "Results are from the 2023 Annual Auto Surveys, involving more than 330,000 vehicles. Data from the 2021 to 2023 model years (plus a few 2024 models) were averaged, provided a vehicle wasn't significantly changed over that time. Some ratings might be based on a single model year."

"The owner satisfaction score is based on the percentage of owners who responded "definitely yes" to the question of whether they would buy the same vehicle if they had to do it all over again (considering price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.). Ratings and scores for the factors were determined based on the percentage of owners who said they were very satisfied."

MY TAKE

Subaru doesn't have just a handful of models that satisfy owners the most. The Japanese automaker consistently ranks among the best car brands because it consistently pleases its customers across most of its lineup. But two models rank low. In tomorrow's report, I'll show the two models in the Subaru lineup that are the least satisfying.

Thanks for reading, everyone. I hope you enjoyed this Subaru satisfaction story. See you tomorrow for my latest Subaru Report.
