What Color 2017 Chevy Volt Will Citizen Barack Obama Buy?

No President supported green vehicles more than President Obama. Will he keep his promise to walk the walk?

During his eight years in office, Barack Obama supported green initiatives with gusto. The Obama administration oversaw an expansion of federal taxpayer funding of solar, alternative transportation and fuels, and electric vehicles in particular. Our story today isn't about his legacy as a green President, but rather, his future as a green citizen.

Five years ago, while campaigning for a second term, President Obama said about the Chevy Volt, "Five years from now, when I'm not president anymore, I'll buy one and drive it myself." You can see the quote in the video below.

Of course, ex-Presidents are not typical citizens, and they do require a higher level of security than most Americans. We wouldn't have called President Obama on his pledge had he not prefaced the promise by speaking about that exact issue, as the video shows.

The 2017 Chevrolet Volt is miles ahead of the Volt President Obama saw on the day of his promise. In fact, the Volt is now the top-selling electric vehicle in America. It outsold both Tesla Models in January and February and it even outsold the new Chevy Bolt battery-electric.

The new Volt has more range, adds a fifth seat, is a Top Safety Pick-Plus rated vehicle for safety with its optional active safety suite, and dealers are selling them as fast as they arrive on lots.

We know Barack Obama as a President who ruled with a focus on advancing the green causes of the day. We fully expect him to walk the walk as a green citizen and keep his promise. Let us know in the comments if you think he will.

A 10-year run is excellent for any model. The Volt was a trailblazing vehicle, and many of its engineering and lessons live on other models we know about and don't know about.

Obama liking the volt might have killed it. When I hang out with my fellow conservatives they dismiss the car as a “Obama mobile”

While they do say every sale counts, I think that in this case one additional sale wouldn’t of saved the model.
