Owners of 2014 Chevrolet Silverados are hot about AC problems

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado has many drivers hot under the collar because of continual problems with the truck’s air conditioning. There are multiple forums dedicated to the same issue. Some drivers had problems right after buying their pickups. Others are suffering with sweltering temperatures right now.

One forum I checked has 19 pages of complaints dedicated to the air conditioning issues. The last post, in September of 2016, pretty well sums up the frustration. This 2014 Silverado owner says he has had to take it in for repairs every three months. “This was my first new car to me. I was planning to buy one for my daughter, but not with this track record. I just had the AC fixed 2 months ago. Today, on the way home from work, the compressor seized and the belt broke. Now it's Friday, no service centers are open, and I live in the south so it is hot and I have no AC. I was planning to take the kids out on the boat, but I am not putting them in a hot truck with no AC. This may very well be the last Chevy I ever buy.”

This owner reported his problem, in late August of 2016. “So I have a 2014 Silverado crewcab. Last year during the height of summer with my kids in the truck my ac broke. I bought this thing new in June of 2014. So I take it in and it was a broken line. I was just a hair over the 36000 miles already in a year but the service guy took care of me. Well here we are now with the temps in the 100's in San Antonio 13 months after the ac was fixed, and it's broke again. I hate this truck.”

Other drivers are reporting similar issues. What appears to be the most upsetting is that the same issues keep reoccurring. The air conditioner suddenly starts blowing warm air. The owners say the repairs take time and never fix the problem for long. “Turns out the compressor and a
hose went out on it. Warranty took care of it but I was left without a vehicle for a few days and upset that practically a new vehicle was already having issues. Got my truck back and about 2 months later guess what? You guessed, the a/c went out again and another compressor went bad.”

A check of the website that monitors complaints about all vehicles, finds that there have been 11 formal complaints made about the ongoing problems with the air conditioning on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverados.

One owner named Brad, from Little Rock, says a dealership finally levelled with him and told him what the real problem is. Brad says they told him “They have a design flaw in the metal part of the hose so we replace the hose and add a support bracket. I asked them why the 2016 models do not have the bracket and was told the a/c hose was redesigned for them and the new hose would not work on a 2014 model.” Brad is furious because he had to pay for the repair and General Motors will not reimburse him.

Another owner, from Texarkana, adds “Was told by the dealer that a bracket had broken and a hose came loose and it would be 550.00 dollars to fix. Time to change brands.”

There have not been any recalls issued for the hose and bracket problems, but it sounds like the issue is wide spread enough that dealers should be aware of the proper repairs. If you are having your AC repaired, It might help to point out all of the complaints and see if you can get it replaced under warranty, or if they will work with you on bringing down the price.

I bought my 2014 Silverado back in March of 2014. Didn't start having issues up until my mileage reached 37,500 miles. First, my battery went out and because the warranty was expired I was left to purchase a new battery out of pocket. Second, Out of nowhere the back up camera stops working. This was a huge issue for me as my wife depends on that to reverse the vehicle properly. After a few days it started working again. Then we lose all power to the radio. The volume does not work the station will not change. The screen was basically frozen for a few hours. Lastly the AC suddenly starts blowing hot air. I couldn't believe that a truck purchased new would already be having AC problems. I put some Freon in the line and it blew cold air for about a week or so. After that it was back to the same hot air. This truck is our family vehicle but I cannot have my children sitting in the back seat sweating to death. Ive always bought Chevy vehicles and they all had some sort of problem. My wife's Cruze has its share of issues as well. I am most certainly not going to purchase another vehicle from Chevy. Time to switch.

i am having the same problem again.. second time now. the first time was about 8months after i bought it (new). also, along with 6 other recalls.. new my ac when out again. this is my second Silverado, both of them was bought brand new. i am pissedddd off..no more chances for GM products..

Yes I found the leak it is on the right side of the front grill if you use a flashlight look in to the top right of the ac condenser and you'll see the tubes coming out of the condenser and the leak was right were the weld is from the tube going into the condenser a tiny pin hole a common problem with the condenser

My 2014silverado is on its fifth condenser. Two were replaced under warranty. Third was supposed to be 1100.00 but I found out GM was replacing condenser on Tahoe and suburban per recall.Talked the dealer into fixing mine for labor only. Next one was installed by my regular mechanic. 560.00. It lasted as long as the gm. Trying one now from Canada.

Same here. No AC, the backup camera doesn’t work and I just had to replace the transmission which was under warranty thankfully but not the other two issues unfortunately since I bought it used. But mine is a 2016. This will be my first and last Chevy vehicle

I bought a new 2014 Chevy silverado in September '14. After not even having it for 3 months, the a.c. hose broke on it. I noticed it was blowing hot air. After having it fixed, about a year later, Thanks to Houston's hot winter this year, It started blowing hot air again. I am having the condenser replaced, because it broke again. Of the years of owning silverados, This is the first truck Ive had to have these problems. I love my truck, I just wish I could be reimbursed of what's obviously a crappy part!

I have the same problem, but I have a GMC Sierra 2014 air conditioner goes out in a 24 hour span after putting freeon in a total bummer for me.. they need to have some kind of recall this is simply a big problem that needs attention

I have a 2014 Silverado that I bought new. I love this truck but the only problem I have is the a/c blowing hot air. I just had it serviced and a couple days later it is doing it again.

I just bought a 2014 chevrolet silverado ltz from a insurance salesman in Kentucky. 7 days later i start it to cool down and open the door to get in and it felt like i had the heat on . The ac was blowing out hot air so I called the guy I bought the truck from and told him that ac quit working and he said that he had never had any problems with the ac. So I bought a can of r134 and gased it up and it worked fine for 7 days. But now it won't even hold any r134 hole is to big it comes out as fast as you fill it.

I would make sure and contact GM's customer service, so that they are aware of your problems! Hopefully, if enough do, they will issue a recall or technical service bulletin.

I also have a 2014 crewcab Silverado and just hit 40000 miles and ac just started blowing hot air

I also just turned 40,000 miles on my 2014 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab and had the A/C condenser replaced today at the dealer for $1100! It's only been on the highway and doesn't appear to have any damage from road debris. Looks like a design flaw to me.

So I bought my Silverado in April 2014 and on August 31 2016 took to the dealer I bought it from cause air quit working 205 dollars later they told me they couldn't find the leak after many cans of dye and freon I discovered the leak is on the top right side of the condenser it is actually leaking on the transmission side of condenser since Chevy put the two together apparently the design or material is flawed

Same thing, 2014 with 41,000 miles blowing hot air because of a faulty compressor. It's a stress fracture and not the result of a rock or sediment hitting the unit. This unquestionably should be fixed in my truck and recalled based on what I'm reading online. I "rewarded" Chevy for my previous Silverado I owned for 11 years with an outstanding maintenance history, and now I deal with pushback from the dealer because I'm out of warranty by 5k miles. No more Chevys for me after 70k invested in two Silverado's.

I have a 2014 Silverado with 44,000 miles on it and had to have ac lines replaced. Service department said the hose got a hole in it because of the low mileage on the truck. I've driven a chevy truck since 1976. Never had ac problems this early into a purchase.

Melted my a/c belt yesterday. Finally found a new one, only to see that the clutch or something is going out. The pulley turns freely, just sticks when you turn a/c on, even though it wasn't on when the belt melted. Should get more than 3 yrs. out of an compressor. 1st place I called about replacement wants $1650. Looks like no more chevys for me...

Add my Chevy Silverado to the long list of AC issues. Started a case document with GM. Was told it's not a big problem or a recall issue. Been to the dealer three times now. This past appointment ended with an empty box for my parts. Compressor was suppose to be inside the box and nothing, what a waste of another day. Now it's going to be reordered and was told the compressors are back ordered. For a isolated issue, parts should not be back ordered. I for one will not be buying a new truck from GM.

My 2014 Sierra 1500 as a leak in the AC condenser. Only have 50k miles. Can't get a replacement compressor anywhere. Whatever inventory was available has been bought out and marked up heavily, as much as $800 for the condenser. What is GMC doing to resolve this issue? Why aren't they on the hook for the epidemic failure?

Our 2014 Silverado Truck AC went out at 53,000 miles - just in time for the hot summer weather. We find out the compressors are on back order and they have no idea when they will be available to make the repair! Sounds like a major problem and GM should be aware they could be losing our business after decades.
