Finally they have a way to stop 2017 Chevrolet Camaros from fogging up

It is one of the most common complaints that you hear about the most recent 2017 Chevrolet Camaros ZL1. Owners says that no matter what the weather is outside, they have problems with their windshields fogging up on the inside. Now there appears to be a solution.

If you peruse the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro forums, it is a complaint you often see. Owners of the latest model years say that no matter what climate they live in, they have problems with their windshields fogging up from the air conditioning system. One popular forum has 31 pages of complaints. There have also been complaints about earlier model years registered with the site carcomplaints.com.

Drivers say that the fogging is so severe that it is a safety issue. “I live in south florida and my RS windshield does fog up on the bottom middle. Frankly its restricting my vision and is a safety hazard. Paid $40K for this car and this should not be a issue.”

Jeff just bought a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro and says, “My 2017 2SS has the same severe condensation issue! I live in Louisiana and with the high humidity it's a safety issue. Dealer has no fix. Called GM and they were no help. Now I'm stuck with a 50K lemon. Not happy. Only way to get less condensation is put temp up, but still fogging! I have raised hell with dealer and they say it normal. It's NOT! Love the car, but it's a hazard in the humid south!”

Other model years of Chevrolet Camaros are also affected

Cam posted on a forum that he has had the same problem with his 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. “FWIW, I experienced fogging in my SS here in MA during month of November so all those stories that it happens only in hot/humid environment is not true.”

A driver from NYC says he thought people were exaggerating, until he experienced it. “Never fogged up before on my 2SS since i took it off the lot. Rented a 1SS in Florida past month and thing fogged up like crazy. Now i see what the fuss is all about and it sucks for sure. I thought for sure it was the humidity or something.”

Chevrolet has found a way to fix the fogging problem

A number of Camaro forums have lit up recently with news that Chevy has found a way to repair the issue. Ted, from Cleveland, posted, “There is a repair for this issue now - ask your dealer to reference last month’s emerging issues broadcast for more information. The repair isn't official yet so there is not a document to reference but it will require the technician to remove some foam from the defroster door that is holding it partially open. Getting to it... That's the tricky part.”

The fix was apparently discussed in program letter 17-013 issued on May 10, 2017. The problem is “Excessive or misapplied foam seal holding mode door open.”

Ted followed up with even more details. “Bulletin #17-NA-201 has been officially released to repair this issue. This was previously only communicated to technicians and service advisors through a video on demand broadcast but now is available for review in print form.” Ted may be an engineer or in service because he appears to be well-versed on the repair. “Windshield needs to be removed and a boroscope is installed into the duct to aid the technician in removal of the foam blocks holding the door open. Blocks were originally there to reduce some blower noise. Calibration update is done as well to repair blower noise through software.”

It is great news that they have found a way to fix what has been a persistent problem on the incredible performance cars. Not all 2017 Chevrolet Camaro owners have had the problem with fogging, it only crops up on some of the vehicles where the foam was installed incorrectly. It is great that Camaro lovers like Ted can share the information that will improve the experience and enjoyment for other Camaro owners.

Hello all, today Friday Oct. 12th 2018 at 7.am I took my 2017 Camaro to my dealership for this very issue. I was told that the "fix" has them pulling the windshield, adding foam, and resealing the windshield. Then he went on to tell me that my windshield will then leak, and that the "fix" doesn't do a damn thing. Wait what??? So now I am going to call GM directly and another dealership to get to bottom of this fix.... If you had this done and it worked please let me know .

Took mine in for the fix, they broke the windshield, kept the car for an excessive time, then when it was still fogging badly they told me the car was engineered this way and I have to live with it...I AM DONE WITH CHEVROLET!

Had the fix done and the problem still exists and may even be worse. The dealer removed the windshield and then ordered a new one from GM. Car stayed in shop over a week while waiting for replacement windshield.
