Next month will be the Chicago Auto Show. While it is the smallest auto show in the U.S., some automakers save some big debuts for it.

Kia is one of them. This week, the Korean automaker announced the new Niro hybrid would be making its worldwide debut at the show.

The Niro is a Hybrid Utility Vehicle (HUV) according to Kia. This new crossover will be the first model in Kia's lineup to use a new dedicated eco-car platform. Using a gas-electric hybrid powertrain, Kia says the model will only emit emission levels under 90 g/km.

Kia has also released a teaser shot showing the exterior of the Niro. The overall shape sits in line with Kia's other crossovers with a tiger-nose grille, tall belt line, and a coupe-like roofline. The design was done jointly by Kia's design studios in California and Namyang, South Korea.
