New numbers from crash testing at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have the Infiniti Q50 flagship sedan and its larger sibling, the Q70, coming out with top honors.

The Q50 is the Infiniti brand's flagship sedan, featuring many firsts for the company and the segment. For 2015, the Q50 equipped with Forward Emergency Braking has grabbed the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick+ award as has the Q50's larger sibling, the Q70 luxury performance sedan.

To get a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS requires crashworthiness in all frontal, side, and rollover tests as well as head restraint and a good rating in the new small overlap front crash test. To get a plus (+) added to that award, though, the vehicle must meet all of those standards and incorporate crash-prevention technologies to help drivers avoid collisions in the first place. To get an advanced or superior rating and grab that Top Safety Pick+ rating is a relatively rare thing in most testing done by the IIHS.

Ifiniti's Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) alerts drivers to potential collisions with a vehicle in front of them using visible and audible warnings. It also applies partial braking and, if the driver fails to respond to warnings, will increase the level of braking and make the warnings more urgent. Infiniti also has the world's first Predictive Forward Collision Warning system, which we've talked about before, which looks not only at the vehicle directly ahead of the driver, but also the vehicle ahead of that one.

“Infiniti’s suite of technology features have always been designed to enhance the experience of driving, not take away from it, and with world’s first systems like Predictive Forward Collision Warning, we intend to help make it safer as well. IIHS’ recognition of our efforts is an honor and reinforces our commitment to be leaders in this field,” said Infiniti Americas Vice President, Michael Bartsch in a statement.
