Chevy catalog offers high performance parts and accessories, plus a look at the COPO Camaro concept vehicle

Chevy gearheads can rejoice. Chevrolet Performance has just released its first ever catalog, and it’s chock-full of performance and racing parts, engines and accessories for Chevrolet cars and trucks. It can be picked up at Chevrolet Performance dealerships (you’ll recognize it by the white Camaro on the cover) or downloaded from GMPerformanceParts, or those who prefer a hard copy can register through RacingJunk.com to have it shipped to their homes. Most of the items in the catalog can be bought online or through dealers.

The cover features the COPO Camaro concept vehicle that was shown off at the 2011 SEMA show in October. There’s an article on it in the magazine, with several strong hints that GM might actually put it into production, initially as a limited run of 50 cars. It wouldn’t be road legal and is meant, as was the 1969 original, for racing. They’d use the body from a production Camaro SS, with a built-in roll cage, custom suspension, racing bucket seats, and a choice of two engines, a 327 or a 427 cubic inch. COPO branding will be prominent. You can have any color you want as long as it’s white. If you’re interested, there’s a mailing list you can sign up for and they’ll let you know when/if they decide to build it. They also tell you what parts you need if you want to build your own.

That alone would make the catalog worth obtaining, even without the 300 pages of parts for your Chevy Camaro, Corvette, Silverado or Cruze. It also features GM’s ‘Connect and Cruise Crate Powertrain Systems.’ Perfect for a hot rod or an older car that needs rejuvenating, these engines with matched transmission kits make it relatively easy for DIYers to install a new engine. According to GM, “The engine controller is specially calibrated to run the engine without some of the production-vehicle features that aren’t required in an older vehicle. That means no ‘theft’ codes, no System OBD2 codes and, therefore, no need for third-party tuning. And the systems’ unique SuperMatic transmission controller is designed to work with the engine controller for a seamless, ‘plug and play’ installation that is quick, easy and intuitive.”

The new Chevrolet Performance Program also allows customers to visit GM’s Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan, to help build their own engine. Pretty cool. Of course, you can also buy parts to upgrade or dress up your ride, including vehicle wraps for the Sonic. Time to start putting together that Christmas wish list.
