With more and more electrical cars on the road every day, the need for trained and skilled mechanics to work on these cars for production and maintenance is rapidly growing. More and more workers with renewable energy certifications and technical electronic certifications are needed in today’s workforce.

AmeriSkills is a training company that offers the education necessary to earn these renewable energy certifications and technical electronic certifications. They offer full hands on training with electric vehicles, and provide the certifications once they are earned.

An electric vehicle (EV) is also referred to as an electric drive vehicle. These kinds of cars use one or more electric motors or traction motors for propulsion instead of the traditional car engine. There are three main types of electric vehicles. There are electrical vehicles that are directly powered from an external power station, those that are powered by stored electricity originally from an external power source, and those that are powered by an on-board electrical generator, such as an engine (a hybrid electric vehicle), or a hydrogen fuel cell.

With these many choices of electrical vehicles, they are complex and the need for highly skilled and trained technicians is growing. Learning to safely work with high voltage vehicles is imperative. Technicians need to learn the steps necessary to power down the various EVs before working on them. They need to learn EV safety, backbone of electronics, and various functions of internal EV mechanisms before they are able to safely work on EVs and Hybrids.

A press release shared that twelve (12) new electrical cars will be introduced in the 2012 model year and an estimated sixteen (16) new electrical cars will be introduced in 2013. As America moves further and further away from the old gasoline/diesel engines to the new more environmentally friendly and eco-friendly electrical cars and Hybrid, more and more technicians will be needed. The press release shared that an estimate showed that “of 20% of all vehicles sold in America will be EVs in the near future, with forecasts of over 1 million EVs on the road by 2015, or sooner.” That is exciting news for our environment and for the workforce.

AmeriSkills is a company that is training Americans to get very in demand jobs. The company is also helping those who may not have strong skill sets to become an expertise in a very rewarding and fulfilling up and coming profession. As the number of EV’s being produced and put out onto the roads grows, so will the number of jobs available and the more in demand people with EV training will become.

Learning technical skills to work on electrical cars is also beneficial to existing technicians. Learning this new skill set can help them advance in the auto industry. It will help private auto technicians and auto dealership technicians become skilled in the EV safety and EV technology.
