The upcoming BMW 1-Series M Coupe is one of the most anticipated performance BMWs in years and it will make its grand debut next month at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Luckily, BMW is as eager to show it off as we are to see it and today they posted a commercial-esque video on YouTube giving us our best look yet at the new trimline.

If you are not familiar with the new BMW 1-Series M Coupe, it is powered by a twin turbocharged 3.0L making somewhere in the area of 340hp and that power is sent to the wheels by means of a 6-speed manual transmission. The 1-Series M Coupe (don’t call it an M1) offers less power and it is not available with the dual clutch transmission from the M3, but it does feature a brake and chassis setup similar to that found on the high performance 3-series.

This baby brother to the M3, which is expected to be priced between the $37k of the basic BMW 1-Series and the $58k price of the current M3, is so well engineered that during preproduction testing at the famed Nurburging, it was reportedly 10 seconds faster than the current M3. The only bad news, only 2,700 units of the new 1-Series M Coupe will be offered worldwide. (click here for more details on the 1-Series M Coupe)

In any case, the new high performance BMW 1-Series will make its grand debut in just a few weeks at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show and until then, we have a great preview video from the company to enjoy…and to make you want one even more.
