The 2011 sales numbers are in and it seems as if Infiniti is poised to follow Lincoln's path to irrelevance in the marketplace. The problem may be that Nissan is making its own cars and trucks too damn well to justify buying an upscale Infiniti.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary investigation into the Infiniti M45 sedans from the 2003 and 2004 model year over a concern that the fuel gauge components may go bad and read incorrectly – possibly leading to stalling and increasing the risks of an accident.

WardsAuto is out with its Ward's 10 Best Engines for 2012 and it's a great list with diverse technology that points the way to how engines are evolving in the American marketplace but it's good to see good old American grunt like that offered in the Ford Mustang Boss 302 isn't overlooked.

You read that title correctly – the NHTSA has announced a recall of 2011 and 2012 model year Nissan 370Z coupes and convertibles along with 2011 and 2012 Infiniti G37 coupes over a concern that the power windows may not be calibrated properly and should a body part be in the window when it is attempting to go up, it could cause a “pinch injury”.

The previous generation Infiniti M56 was always a likable luxury performance sedan. It had a sense of oomph to it while providing a luxurious, comfortable ride. The one thing it lacked was a real sense of design but not so with the 2012 Infiniti M56. Gone is the bland exterior that was not in keeping with the rest of Infiniti's sharp looks.

The 2012 Infiniti M35h hybrid has officially been named the world’s fastest full-hybrid car. It has been certified by the 2013 Guinness Book of Records and will be listed in the next edition.

On the seventh day of the seventh month of 2011, at 7:07 a.m., Infiniti posted the first image of the their new concept, the seven-passenger Infiniti JX . The new vehicle will join the luxury line next spring. Also announced was the launch of the "Power of 7", an social media campaign hoping to build a buzz about the JX Concept in advance of its global reveal at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 18.

Last week we reported that when the 2012 Nissan Altima arrives, the slow-selling hybrid trimline will not be available but reports out of Japan suggest that Nissan is working on a new Altima hybrid using similar technology to what the company uses on the current Infiniti M35h.
