Why Hasn't Canada Gotten the C-Class Wagon

The Canadian automotive marketplace is littered with vehicles that are nonexistent in the U.S. For example, Mercedes-Benz sells the B-Class and diesel version of the GLE-Coupe. There is also a C-Class Wagon that was announced earlier this year, but it hasn't arrived.

The Truth About Cars put on their investigation hat on to find out if the C-Class Wagon is still coming or not. Mercedes-Benz Canada spokesperson JoAnne Caza revealed the wagon is currently "waiting on certification." What needs to be certified?!

As we reported back in January, the C-Class wagon will only be offered as the C300d 4Matic with a turbocharged 2.1L four-cylinder diesel producing 200 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The diesel engine is what is holding up Mercedes from selling the wagon thanks to increased scrutiny by officials due to the Volkswagen emission scandal. Caza said the certification process isn't done by Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency, but is handed off to the EPA and CARB.

This isn't the only Mercedes-Benz model currently being held up. As we reported earlier this month, the C-Class diesel sedan destined for the U.S. sometime this year has been pushed back to 2017 due to additional emission testing.
