There isn't a lot wrong with the Porsche Macan except for two things. The base Macan S drinks gas like its going out of style and it is quite expensive. Porsche decided to remedy these problems with a new base model and engine.

Porsche announced the 2017 Macan which will begin at $48,550 (includes $1,050 destination charge) and comes with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder.

Wait, is the same turbo 2.0L found in the 718 Boxster?

Hate to burst your bubble but no. The turbo 2.0L in the Macan is the same engine you'll find in a number of Audi and Volkswagen vehicles. Power ratings for the turbo 2.0L are 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Paired with Porsche's PDK dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive, the Macan hits 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. Fuel economy is slightly better with ratings of 20 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway, compared to 17 MPG in the city and 23 on the highway for the Macan S.

The Macan differentiates itself from other Macan models by having black window trim, brake calipers finished in black, and stainless steel exhaust tips. Standard equipment includes HID headlights, piano black interior trim, eight-way power front seats, Alcantara seat inserts, and lane departure warning.

Porsche will debut the 2017 Macan at the New York Auto Show in a few weeks, with it arriving at dealers in July.
