It began on New Years Eve when Mercedes-Benz tweeted out a sketch of the next E-Class with the following comment: "Masterpiece of Intelligence: #MercedesBenz design perfectly embodies the philosophy of Sensual Purity. "

Then on New Years Day, Mercedes posted a video showing off a key item on the E-Class' exterior. A set of LED headlights with 84 LEDs that are individually controlled.

From these two items, we can pick out a few things about how the next E-Class will look like. Up front, Mercedes is taking some ideas from the smaller C-Class with a more aggressive grille and long hood. It also looks like the next E-Class will share a similar silhouette with the C and flagship S-Class.

What else do we know about the 2017 Mercedes-Benz?

Quite a lot. Towards the end of last year, Mercedes released a picture of the E-Class' interior and takes a of ideas from the C and S-Class with a flowing dashboard and the use of high-quality materials such as metal and real wood. The E-Class will be the first Mercedes to feature two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and central display. The two screens positioned in such away that it seems to be one large screen.

Rumor has it that Mercedes will introduce new engines for the next-generation E-Class, including an inline-six. A nine-speed transmission is expected to be used on most models.
