This week, Victoria Police have taken delivery of a Mercedes-AMG E43 sedan. Nicknamed “Guardian V2”, it comes fully decked out in the Victoria Police livery and features the requisite equipment such as a new antenna for police radio and additional lights. It should be noted this is taking the place of a Mercedes-AMG GLE63 which was used by the department last year. Unlike the firebreathing GLE, the E43 only comes with 396 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.

The E43 will be tasked with an important duty according to CarAdvice as it will be used to highlight safety systems in new cars.

“Our partnership with Mercedes-Benz is about highlighting safety features in vehicles; we want to be part of the discussion around what safer cars look like and know that having the Guardian V2 out and about in the community does this,” said Doug Fryer, road policing command assistant commissioner for the Victoria Police.

Now before anyone thinks that Victoria Police shelled out $159,900 AUD for an E43, it is being loaned to them by Mercedes-Benz Australia. This was the same deal for the GLE63 from last year.

If you happen to be at the Albert Park circuit for the first round of the F1 season, be on the lookout for this special E43 as it will making its public debut there.
